JCB 802- when to replace hoses

Hi,
2005 low hours, low use machine.
The outers on most of hoses next to king pin areperished and falling off. Pulling the loose outer off, the inner is fine, no leaks.

Is it worth just changing all hoses at once or just wait until failure?

Any idea where would know and could provide a set of right lengths/ fittings- Vicary maybe?

No chance getting a set the right length, you’ll have to measure carefully or just take a complete old hose to the local place.

I’d leave them personally.

On jcbs they put an extra sleeve over the hoses down there which disintegrates, which is what I'm assuming your talking about. If so don't worry about it at all.

I'd be reactive rather than proactive! I've had many hoses that have hung in for far longer than I thought and ones that I have assumed are fine blow where they've been rubbing on something- normally in the guts of the machine where alot of swearing is required to replace them.

I would put spiral wraps on to replace the failed sleeve as once the sleeve fails the hoses rub quite quickly

It is an extra sleeve, so sounds like they’re originals or OEM replacements, pretty good for a 2005 machine!

or the cloth anti-wear sleeving would also do a good job ... like this stuff but for hoses

or some lay flat hose to replace the sleeves .. good tough stuff

If you can get the jcb part number off them (and they still make them) they are always bang on, and normally a really fair price for the ‘genuine’ hoses. The amount of times I’ve had a hose fitter out and then within months had to replace said hose because it’s wrong!

Apparently it's a waste of time buying anything 0ther than genuine jcb internal boom hoses as they make them taking into the Account the natural roll of the hose

Labels not obvious that I can see. I’ve found the part numbers on the web site but it’s not too obvious which is which. Suspect I’ll have to wait until they go and hope I’m not in a rush to repair. Fingers crossed…

They are normally stamped onto the ferrule

On the Johnston road sweepers, the parts book lists all the hoses, and the part number can be decoded to get all the information about the hose, bore, length, fitting size and type, and orientation. Handy if you want to do a job, you can get some made up ready.
Its a sham more manufacturers don't have similar.

I did my work experience for them. There spares store was seriously impressive.

Yes Bucher Municipal, a Swiss company are the current owners, Johnston had bought out a Danish sweeper manufacture Beam, prior to this.
Its just a sham some parts where designed by two different people in different rooms who didn't speak to each other.

JCB aren't that good, but the first three digits of a hose number tell you the size and pressure rating of the hose.
