Jcb 8014 engine oil loss

Wonder if anyone could advise
After not using for some time, fitting new battery, checking all fluid levels I operated for a very short time and stored machine.
The following week I noticed oil had dripped over one of the tracks. On start up the oil earning light was alarming... Oil level was not registering
What am I likely to find and why did this happen

Don't know the machine, but your only options are a leak from the oil cooler (and hoses) of the oil filter.
(the manual I have for the 8014 doesn't show the engine at all).

A chaffed hose is probably the most likely.
A split oil cooler might mean a jammed relief valve
A slightly loose spin-on filter can work fine for ages and suddenly pop the main seal

you didn't check the oil levels BEFORE starting it ??
depending on how the machine was orientated - in line - oil cooler or associated plumbing - cross tracks/carriage - could well be a filter loose, but would not explain a total loss, only a filterful so I'd be inclined towards cooler and/or its plumbing

Good point.
I'm a bit focused on filter seals as my log splitter popped it's seal and dumped a couple of liters of hydraulic oil on my foot before I could shut it down
(on the plus side, my right boot will be waterproof for the rest of it's life)

As detailed..... I checked all fluids..... Then manouvered it for a short while and left it for a week then as I'd only checked recently I started to move it and noticed the problem

Where did you store it?

Are you thinking a rusty sump..?

Could be perished engine mounts letting the sump rub against the belly plate.

Check the sump plug. Wouldn’t be the first time one’s been left loose.
