Jcb 801 starting in cold

I have a JCB 801, this is the first winter I've had it - been working a dream all summer and had it running a week ago but just dropped to around 4/5 C and it won't start at all, tried a couple of times now and nothing doing.

It has a Perkins engine in and when it's run there's been no issues with it, will run sweet as all day. The battery is all good and connections are fine, they were not long ago replaced. Any ideas how to get it going?

Just check one of the pedals on the floor isn't stuck down one way or the other. They get seized up over time and even being slightly depressed will stop the machine from starting - no matter how good the battery is!

Well known for having a wank/weak starter. Test it to confirm and replace it.

I've a starter rolling around on my truck floor because of it.

On one occasion its been starter exciter wire but every other it's been starter.

What about heater plugs. My perkins engined diggers won't start without heat

try a lung full of blowlamp, down the air intake (with the filter removed)

does it have heater plugs in the head or a 'flamethrower' in the inlet manifold ... not dear to replace if it is and makes the world of difference to an indifferent Perky

When you say ‘nothing doing’- is it turning over and no start or not even turning over?

Cold starting aid such as glow plugs is the obvious place to look first if it’s turning over ok.

How have you tested the battery?
