Hello All
Saturday Mechanic here looking for advice from you all
Have the old 1982 3cx white cab and am working away through her ailments, learnt how to adjust/rotate the injector pump with a great result, when i thought the engine was terminal - while the engine is running great, but has a moderate amount of blow-back - it is very different now, power steering filter sorted, have re-sealed 6 rams, now the transmission is a problem.
She will only move in reverse, wont move forward, it is a big manual level up on the left side of the dash, linkages seem fine, moving forward had been slower to get going on the last few occasions that i moved her, but now will only move in reverse.
There is a small panel on the underside of the powershuttle, i gather there is a filter in there and i suspect this has had no love nor attention since it was brought from Tower Hamlets to Co. Tipperary in 1984, would anybody from the community have any guidance from me and i would love to post my success/failure back here
Thank you all -

I`ve got something in the back of my mind saying, on the left hand side of the transmission where the F/R and dump pedal linkage comes down there is a plunger that can stick causing a loss of drive

Yes there is, and it’s not clever to get to! You could try that, check it and clean it up.

Isn't that the vintage that the shuttle pack was splined , later ones where laser welded ? 🤔

Dear All
Thought i feedback to you
1. Mick my serial number is L295444, i checked it again
2. Yes the dump pedal linkage was sticky - freed it - but still no forward travel, the linkage connections on the shuttle were fine
3. Powertrain dipstick dry, even with engine on and ticking over
4. I took off the six studs holding the box like sump on the power train, yes this was just half full, maybe 600ml trans fluids
5. Took off the oil strainer/filter, it wasn’t excessively dirty, but cleaned if off, put it back in, sump back on, patiently filled in autotrac transmission fluid,
6. Low and behold - she is driving perfectly, doing cartwheels around the yard last night!
7. I understand that that Borg ? Varner transmission was not brilliant, may well need to be changed out in the future
Again - this is all learning for me, but thoroughly enjoying it!
Thank you all very much for your help and guidance - it is hugely appreciated, may well need it again

Great stuff, may be a photo of a cartwheel in a 3CX would be something to see😊 so what was the eventual amount of oil you put in to refill the gear box? I’m guessing that if both forward and reverse packs are fed by the same pump then the forward motion pack is worn more than reverse, in theory bigger gaps to fill.

After putting in 2litres forward transmission worked fine, but its a slow process filling down the long dipstick tube, have put about 9litres in, was filling it then it seemed to empty down into the transmission, i think it might take some more, yes I’d say its a sign that while the transmission is working fine now, it may run into trouble in the near future
Thanks again
