JCB 2CX Specs over the years - Help

Looking to get a 2CX Streetmaster for own use. Trying to find out what generations there are and what the spec changes were so can work out which one to go for. So far seems that 2CX II was 1992-2002 and 2CX III was 2002-2014 but seems to be a 2002-2008 and a 2008-2014 derivative like a 2CX IIIa (2002-2008) and 2CX IIIb (2008-2014). Cannot find much info online about the spec difference between those 2.
Guessing JCB in the UK stopped the 2CX III and replaced with 3CX Compact in 2015 ?
Is an early 3CX Compact worth the bit more cash over a late 2CX III as seen some where the difference is small eg. £24k vs £26k and others where is >£10k
Any help greatfully received. Want to get it right as will have it for a long time.

By on machine condition rather than age ect.

The 2cx came in around 91 with a 3cyl engine and was upgraded in around 1993 along with several other bits. This ran to about 1995 when the cab was updated and that model was until 2006 where several upgrades were made and that ran until 2015

An easy way to tell is the cab shapes to diferenciate between.

A well looked after 2cx is a good asset but trying to find a looked after one is hard.

If your going to road it then check how much ware is in the steering joints....it makes the journey hard work.

Thanks for the advice and on the steering joint wear. Is there a way to tell the steering joint wear without jacking it up and pry-barring ?

Do you know what the updates were after 2006 ?

I know hours can be easy and hard but in general is there a number of hours at which they start to get tired ? ie, 3,000, 6,000 etc.

I have heard that the condition of the backhoe mounting (kingpin ??) is a major issue it it has not been greased sufficiently/frequently ?

New loader arms and I think a redesign of the back end. Also several more minor things. Such as a mechanical hand break over the electronic in the older version.

Basically get the axle in the air and feel for side to side play....its apparent very quickly.

I’ve on and off toyed with a 2CX as a yard tool. With or without back end. As far as I’m away they are only ever in sticks, whereas 3cx compact can be on servos. Some 2cx have quick hitch in front so you can swap out to train bucket / dedicated forks / 4in1 bucket etc.
not sure if age or spec, but older ones seem to be less likely to have rear QH and sliding dippers
