JCB 1THT - Handle Lock

I’ve opened a new thread to help with forum search results in future when I forget! Ha!

Does anyone know the key type that locks/unlocks the handle on a mini JCB (Mecalac) Dumper. It’s the handle on the open engine cover the seat is mounted to.

The JCB key doesn’t fit it’s a different style but I have no idea what. I’ve taken the handle and lock apart and it’s all clean and working but still no closer to operating it as no idea on key. Strange that only the ignition was changed to JCB but most likely a cost thing at manufacture.

I couldn't tell you but a pack of plant keys are less than a tenner on eBay and are really useful to keep in the van

ha! Funny enough I’d looked at those but not sure if any in the set would match. There’s a super duper set for £65 but half I’d never use and knowing my luck Id still need a different random key. Also a new handle is less

Well funny enough, I did find a 2 handles that looks exactly the same on eBay. But not the same part number but doesn’t mean it’s not it.

Not sure key type though shown in photo.

looks a bit like an old FS type key .... but that is going back some and also looks a tad techier too

Tbh I've found that there is such a selection and these locks are usually of poor enough quality that if you jiggle the key a little they open
For example I locked the key inside a hired Kubota the other day and found a John Deere key opened the door

Yes some plant locks (hang on! All plant locks) are just as good as a chocolate teapot!

Bit pointless fitting decent locks to a big glass bubble especially when the keys are 50p on eBay
Even with the keypads 90% of machines I've driven have the code Sharpies down the console

Or the code is part of the hire companies phone number which isn't difficult to work out

It could be one of those I think 1001 was the door key no for MF 50HX with a glass half door ? , maybe even the later one with the full glass door also , Mecalac took over Terex that was Fermec /MF so they would have a historic use of them anyway
