at the time vehicles were horrendously expensive out there .. summat like 120% of new price on top as tax, even if he took his over there ... same rate

Frank do the machines live In heated workshop or do they have plug in night heaters or diesel night heaters?
when I lived in Munich my neighbours all had plug in block heaters for worst of the winter we had -25c like you used to take my uk golf like 45 mins to defrost
if something goes wrong on a machine and you have to work bare handed etc must be pretty harsh on the hands do your employers provide you good warm work wear like ski trousers and jackets and just layer up or the heaters are that good just stay I’m the cabin

A mate of mine used to have this, ex Swedish military iirc. Had a big electrical plug wired into it, almost like the red 3phase sockets we get in the uk

my old Demag 30 tonner came from Sweden and had a sump heater fitted (air cooled Deutz)

Thats bloody cold! I remember back in 2011 when it was -15 for a week or so we were struggling to get the machines to run because the red was waxing up. Had to use the old trick of diluting the tank with a bit of petrol. Not sure the tier 4 onwards machines would put up with that nowadays. Thing is, you get to site, spend all this time defrosting the padlock to get in, then the container door, then the water to get the toilets and kettle going, then the machines running, then realise the ground is frozen solid, all the aggregates are one big solid pile, everything is slippy as hell and its literally too cold to do anything!

But I appreciate for you up in Scandinavia its like that for weeks every year so I guess you learn to deal with it and are better prepared.

1981/2 winter IIRC we had -29C here one night ... was living in Raglan at the time and running a SWB SIII diesel .... had the motor completely blanketed over on the bonnet and rad blanked off completely, as had been 'kin cold for some time ... had to go into work about 11pm as had been watching the thermometer fall all day/evening and decided to go drop all the fluids out of the kit as back then 30% was the accepted norm and was starting to sludge/freeze ...... have used 50% ever since ... was some bit cold that night and 2+ ft of snow on the ground ..... only colder I've experienced was skiing in Val D'Isere in '92 ... there a week before the winter Olympics .... top of the Col was -34C ... and that was bloody cold

Most machines Have Nothing, Some have Plug In night heaters and most machines in the Colder area have diesel night heaters

The employers provides hot clothes for the ground workers, not so hot clothes for the plant operators.
The cabin heaters on some machines are good on some not so good, That just means mor clothing
My impression is that the des Newer the machine are the worse heating system they have

Not me that pulls in the lever on this one.
Is from some place up in the Northern Sweden.
I have been pulling the lever on this one
And last week I had down to minus 15
You just start the day doing some s turns and pirouettes to fill the chassis with snow so the soil and clay do not freeze to the frame
