Had a price for backhoe for a day on my plot earlier. 400. Didnt think it was too bad considering must be drinking a tons worth of juice in a day? Last time I had one 2019 off another firm was about 250 for machine and 75 to bring breaker but they were on red back then.

I'm getting £600/day + vat and that's for at least a weeks worth of work at a time. If it was a single day, depending on the tramping involved it would be more than that, but I don't seek day work with mine to be honest.
On site, it uses about 5l of diesel an hour which isn't too bad I don't think. Certain jobs use more than others but that's about the average I seem to use. And then there's adblue which isn't much but it all adds up.
£400 just doesn't cut it in the modern day I don't think. Before Doobin says it - get more with a 3t digger

I'm lucky with location as a customer. Got a few i know right on my doorstep and probably more I dont know about. Furthest would be tramping 5 or 6 miles, 2 of them within 3 miles.
One is owner op at 400, other is a decent size firm who I used last time at 55 per hr. They do a lot of council road work. What's that 440 for the day. And another small firm not bothered asking them yet but I do normally use for pulling foundations they have a very neat driver. Wonder if he is as good on the backhoe?!
I can see where people are coming from theres not a lot of meat on the bone. Certainly if you're having to send an employee out on it. I suppose its not too bad if owner op. I charge a similar rate for me and the boy. I dont have a machine to run and pay for but do have his mouth to feed and the van and tools and juice. Keep in mind I'm midlands too. Obviously priced work is always better if you're good at your job.

I looked today, 4.8L/hr according to the computer and that includes roading. I didn't think that was bad for a 4.8l 109hp engine.
Certainly get some work done with it.

That’s mental- I’d do a sanity check rather than trust your computer.
A 26hp compact tractor will average 3-4 litres per hour. That figure doesn’t pass the sniff test for me.

I did the actual fuel use calculation back with my old 3cx when I had it against the new Kubota 8 tonner and thought it was around 5l from memory. I think the Kubota was using 6.5 or something like that. This new machine has an eco mode that I find really good for general excavating, runs at 1400rpm and seems to genuinely keep the fuel use down.
When I've next got a day on it, I'll do a fuel use test with this new one. But I don't feel the computer is far out.
