I've a feeling it's more to do with trademarks, with the 4in1 being a Rubery Owen owned name from memory (as with Drott).
Fords post 550 had a Mc Connel 6in1 Etc.

Fermec 860 or Terex 860 are superb machines they have the 20in front wheels so they will go anywhere they also have a really tight turning circle and they have a diff lock, My machine is a 2007 with the Perkins 1104Turbo it has loads of power, I was lucky and found it locally I got it off the original owner operator who had owned from new. (I wont tell you what I paid for it)! I put it up for sale at the end of last year for 20k and had a lot of interest but bottled out of selling as I could not find anything else that would match its condition. The back end can suffer on the kingpost where the boom attaches as people can't find the grease nipple. But I have done a couple of bottom pins now it's quite an easy job to do the pins and 4 bushes. Spares can be a problem now Kelland's and Dobson's are always helpful but they have to make reasonable sized orders up and the parts can take a few weeks as Terex decided to move their spares over to Turkey of all places. I have had the ealier MF 860 too, The New Holland LB110 is a nice machine too they have the Iveco turbo engine, They are quite heavy on the back end though and the straight loader arms are not to everyones liking.

Drott owned the 4 in 1 name, Rubery Owen manufactured the buckets under license from Drott for several manufacturers inc. Cat when they produced the 941 in the UK. Now Cat just call them multi-purpose buckets.

Just to recap. The MC Connell buckets where a "Double 4" (just checked)
Rubery Owen where a very interesting firm with some exceptionally curious international tie ups. The Wain Roy backhoes are interesting as there original skid units where David Brown based and actually a much heavier duty machine than the latter internationals it would seem.
The Wain Roy/JCB Jaw bucket tie up is another interesting thing. I had a very original 2' Jaw with both the Wain Roy and JCB branding on it.

It's done 9300. It's original paint apart from the inside of the boom and dipper that i have primed and painted. The chap that owned it from new had it serviced and greased regularly and it had whatever it needed, At the end of the day he was an owner operator so it needed to be reliable, It has very little play in it, I have got the dipper bucket end bushes to do when I get 10 mins. They are a cracking machine the only thing i would say is fit a battery isolator or take the negative off the battery if you are not using it, They did have a bit of a reputation for self combusting, These newer machines have a lot more wiring than the simple old 3C's used to have. Last year Dobsons had a clearout of Fermec parts I wish i had bought them all now!

You make the parts sound problematic!? Assume one of the reasons they seem cheaper than JCB.... Seems to compare more to Case 590 than a 3CX looking at the specs.

Customer of mine has the skid steer wheeled version of that. They only really use the front end though as find the rear actor too hard to do anything finesse with. I've had a go on it- as you say quite fun for 10 mins but not good at anything in particular

I have had 5 fermecs over a few years up until now not had a problem getting parts, Service wise I tend to get all of my filters etc from Rico if i need parts then I contact Dobsons or Kelland although I surf the web and I do collect parts that i see and think may be usefull in the future, I had a Case 590 super with servos for a little while it was a nice machine although a bit overkill for here and it had Powershift which is something else to go wrong, Its useful if you are on the road alot but not if you are on a smallholding 90% of the time, I would like to try a Case 580 but not sure about the reach on the extending dipper with that over centre boom and the cabs seem to be quite small.

Might have known if there was something obscure it’d be laying in the back of your yard. Wain Roy must have been out of production 60 years as a mainstream manufacturer.
Some people called the Rubery Owen buckets “Rubbery Owen” as they were lighter than the Cat-built buckets and flexed a lot more on the apron.

Threw a few bids at this … up-to 14.5K. 54plate with 8000 hours and on sticks. Clean looking and in same County. Never made reserve though. Wonder what it was?

Nice old International wainroy, I think as a kid i only ever remember seeing a couple on building sites down my way most machines were 3c or MF 40 / 50 with the occasional Ford 13/6 autodig happy days and proper machine operators!

David brown TC, very early one.
At a guess looking at the serial numbers number 21.... I've seen one other on the public market minus it's back actor in the UK and rumour has it a "collector" has one they are doing up.

Buyers premium not too bad. Capped at £300 I think on a single item.
18K seems a lot for the age/hours/No QH/no history/no comeback. Very clean looking machine though so must have been looked after well.
