My mates 80k all singing dancing 3cx contractor is on £38 ph to Derbyshire highways! Bonkers! Consistency is what what it pay 5 days a week and some bonus weekends
There’s still no money in it surely?

Break it down. That’s barely £300 a day. Operator £150? Diesel and grease £100? Even if you don’t do anything on site you still have to drive there and that’s where most diesel is burnt.

So £50 a day ‘profit’ (more like depreciation)

They provide fuel

Reality is in an 8 hour shift with a resurfacing gang might do 2 hours tops

Yup. Still meh. Prefer murpheys, less sweet.

Had a night sampling around two dozen Irish craft beers. Utter rubbish I’m sad to say. All refrigerated, over hopped crap.

The worst was a DIPA. Apparently that stands for double ipa. Couldn’t take more than a sip- was like drinking dettol. Absolutely foul.

Currently drinking Smithwicks red ale. Nothing to write home about.
Good time to negotiate on that old tractor then !

Not on scc or rmbc. Its an all in rate.

Ours is paid by the meter. Contractor sorts everything including diesel but they account for how quick their own lads cut it. You have a set period to cut it but you have to increase labour. The private companies run 3 man gangs with zero turn mowers and out front flails that they alternate depending on the grass. The boroughs that are still in house run 6-8 man gangs sometimes more with our front rotary mowers to do the same work. Therefore the private companies can make a decent wedge it despite on the face it being unprofitable.

It's low houred and being ex EA if it's anything like my ex EA 8 tonner it won't have done much. However I've a feeling that machine has done the rounds on marketplace - there was an identical one to it selling down in Cornwall not long ago ...
