That was exactly what I was thinking. Must be huge stresses.

Aside from the stresses, how do you get to them? The look like they are simple enough, but physically getting to the looks impossible?

I think it is a special Dutch design. Doesn’t get muddy as it will float on water!,

To be fair it's probably fairly simple to take the extensions on and off. Makes for a handy machine if you don't need the ultra low ground pressure all the time. Good idea but i bet not cheap

The drive looks to be just a friction drive from the inside of the original track, and I wonder if it is a bit like a hydraulic quick hitch type set up to clamp the extension tracks on?

Yes, I don't know what it is here, but some many people seem to want the lowest spec machine even if getting better kit produces efficiency savings and often a better job as well.

Fair enough if you only work on am hourly rate and you can't get any more for better productivity, but if you do price work, as a lot of people do, you can make substantial savings.
