That company up north is importing the tray back version of that. They had a few v8's but mostly 2.8's now. Auto box in them now too.
Tbf I wouldn't mind the fortrunner which is a Hilux SUV but like the old surfs.
Currently at a complete loss at what to get my wife as a new car as they all seem to link size with accessories. We want a big car but only want the accessories and tech level of 20 years ago. And just about everything on the road seems to be riddled with problems.
Simply answer, buy somethink big and 20years old. We still have an E Class estate that fits the bill!!

Near enough London to want something ulez compliant. And all the big old reliable motors seem to be riddled with rust.
Wouldn't mind a land cruiser Colorado but expensive, rotten and non ulez. It would be nice just to be able to buy a car that will fit kids dogs and associated crap in without having everything automated electrified or touch screen.
The bigger dacia duster comes out next year and might be a contender. The logun estate car looks ideal but wife won't consider it as to ugly.

Afaik the V8 has gone now 😔
Saw some pretty nice decent useable SUV type things in NZ that we don't get.
Was looking at a grenadier again today. If that was 30k that would absolutely fly out ...it's just simply not a 70k car imo. Once they sort the gremlins it's got the potential

Oh look up the Toyota champ 😃 a 10k pickup!!
Actually not a daft idea .
not gonna win any beauty contests :ROFLMAO:

What about a Merc 350ML?

I don't think one new enough to go in ulez would have the reliability of the older ones. And would be expensive if it goes wrong.
Same with audi q7, vw toureg and bmw x5.
You can get a Hilux with 5 years of warranty left for just over 20k. Which makes the cars look expensive.
I quite like the Toyota and Kia stables as they have long warranties. I know the warranty doesn't always mean much but after what happened with Nissan navara chassis I think they must be confident the vehicles will last trouble free for the warranty period. Whereas the other manufacturers don't seem to have that confidence in themselves.

They have been selling for 30k brand new at Euro auctions recently!! And keep putting them in, talk about devaluing the brand!!

A brief Google says they're compliant, but don't take that as red.
I couldn't give you a long term report as we've only had ours about 18 months, but had no issues in that time and all other reports are that it's a very good used vehicle.

True that it could be expensive to fix if something serious goes wrong, but when it doesn't then it's a non issue.

It's usually about 14/15 plate to be compliant.
It's a constant juggle as to whether to gamble on a cheaper older vehicle or newer more expensive with warranty.
Everything is just so expensive now. And don't really get a lot for your money, just more gadgets that don't really add much.

They are that.
350MLs were £54K + extras when new, you can get low mileage mint ones for circa £15k now, that's a lot of car for the money.
I did my research as we can't afford to run an expensive motor, i've never had a new car yet, I can't afford one and it's depreciation! I'd take used, nearly new everytime as they're such bargains (although this isn't nearly new).
Also I always try to find the big engined models of anything. A motor which is less stressed will do the miles with no problems, but yes, at the expense of MPG.
It was quite difficult to find a good one with a private sale and when I did it was always sold straight away. Dealers are buying them and that's quite telling.
A dealer was about to buy ours, but I managed to beat him to it and bagged it. That made me quite happy :D

the exact reason I bit the bullet, doubled the budget and bought the Sportage -- even older stuff, is now so complex, it's a way bigger gamble than it ever used to be -
late teens, 20s & 30s I'd usually have a different vehicle one month to the next, unless I really liked what I was running, then it'd be move it on whilst there was still some profit in it and always had an SD1 sat about as a spare chariot. Used to buy a LOT of the Renault garage's part ex.,s .. knew the owner well and could always have a good deal with her ..
were just across the road from my w/shop and she'd ring me if anything of interest to me came in
if anything needed doing was always a POP.
She semi-retired and I didn't have the same relationship with the new general manager, so SD,s and RRs became my main transport

was my philosophy too ...
if buying through choice rather than above 👆 always tried to find the top of the range - they generally didn't hold their money much better than the other lesser models and usually ran a big lump
only ever owned one 6 pot SD - was a minter .. but not for very long - had a terrible rep. of warping the cam head/carrier

I would very much prefer to run a couple of vehicles maybe something bigger and older and non ulez and something smaller and more economical.
But I don't have the space to park another vehicle comfortably and I don't have the time to do any work on something older. And it is no longer viable paying for the work.
I do constantly romanticize the idea of a 90 to tinker with or get the series 2 back of my dad but reality is I don't have the time money or space to play that game.
With any luck a few more years I can move to herefordshire and be able to do things like that.

I apply it to other things like power tools and the like, buy something which has more power than you'll generally need and it'll last longer.
I've got a die grinder that I wouldn't dare let anyone use it's so dangerous. It doesn't stall, it just grips and sends it flying if you get it wrong or you're not strong enough. Years old, never had any problems with it.

I have an old 2.5TD Vivaro van, i've seen them for sale still running fine with 300 - 400k miles on them. The engines are great, just everything else fails apart from the bodywork.
After that model Vauxhall went to a 1.6 twin turbo, it created much more power, but was over stressed and broke. Whether they ever got it right with the later models I don't know, but a mechanic friend of mine says the older models hold their value and the newer ones are worth pennies.

I am looking forward to getting my 90 to the magical 40years old mark. There is a Range Rover Classic in the barn that is also ticking slowly towards to the big 40. I won’t be driving any new stuff unless the lottery comes up trumps. And I very rarely play!!
