Don't complain - suggest what's better
There are rumours going round the RHA deliberately leaked the story that there may be a fuel shortage to the press in order the cause the problem and bounce the government into allowing more foreign drivers visas so stopping the increase in drivers wages. It may be a conspiracy theory but it makes sense from their point of view. It's not like the government has a plan and sticks to it.

If nothing else the RHA dictators moan about that rumor gives a great opportunity to ask tough questions on LinkedIn

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Just about everyone I know who has/had hgv said the reason they not keeping it up is CPC...wtf...not much mention of this
totally agree ...
WTF does someone who has trained and passed a serious test then need this CPC sh1t ...
they're not transport managers they're drivers FFS ..
any/everything they need to be competent should've been gleaned in their training and test. ...
CPC isn't gonna show you how to sheet and secure a load, etc., etc. !!

the industry itself has brought all this about, coupled with un-necessary bollox from government and is now being hyped, as usual, by the media, desperate to create a story (and crisis) to report on --
fuel being a classic example of their hysteria generating propoganda-esque bollox ....
The media are usually responsible for accelerating all sorts of crises ....
they, without doubt in my mind, were massively responsible/totally instrumental for the '07 crash in the economy .. along with many other examples of their 'creative reporting'.

As I've just said in another thread cpc is a good idea in principal but very badly executed.
The idea of some training given to fresh starts about load security and vehicle checks and even driver's hours is good I think, there are a lot of people who haven't grown up in an environment where this can be picked up and driver's hours are a headache to understand at the best of times.
However why on earth do we have to do it every couple of years I don't get.
It doesn't change.
You only need to learn how to use a ratchet strap once, and i don't think anyone needs to be taught how to check if there is an afghan immigrant hanging of your spare tyre. Definitely not every 5 years when most driver's never drive abroad.
