What I don't understand is if you want to be a vegetarian or vegan then you don't want to eat meat. Why would you then want to eat fake meat? Surely that means you actually want to eat meat and you are just posing for social media?
Pam and I have said this many times ...... why make vege chicken drumsticks/dippers/burgers/sausages/etc. ..... Serge who is a vege these days is of the same opinion - to quote him - " WTF is that all about FFS " :ROFLMAO: and why try to make it taste like meat ???

I most like the bit about "it takes a very special talent" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:and perhaps a frontal lobotomy to fk up this badly .... just how much longer do you 'spose they're gonna last, flogging 'food' at 55% of cost price :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ... and who in their right minds sinks THAT amount of bucks into a colander, posing as a ship  ...... for six years FFS

You've missed the mark.
That's way down the list of confusing things as to why you would want to eat fake meat.
If you try it you will be even more confused as to why on earth you would choose to eat it.

We went to a vegan wedding. Huge buffet of virtually inedible food.

My sister and her husband opened a vegan/gluten free cafe many years ago (neither is vegetarian or vegan) and the food was horrible, but they did so well they were able to sell up and she retired in her 30s. There is demand out there without eating fake meat, but you must be really in to it. As you say the food is inedible to the normal consumer.

there is a huge demand for GF for sure Gra .....
quite remarkable the number of coeliacs about and how little they are catered for -- it's not a lifestyle choice, like grass eating - it's a necessity to remain healthy -- dare say there're a few on here.

Pam's coeliac and both her kids - they're very unwell if they inadvertently eat gluten - eating out is not easy - better than it used to be ten years ago, but still not that easy ... Pam's GF cooking is amazing and I eat GF 95% of the time ... her GF baking is better than non GF (y) and I can quite easily understand how a speciality cafe would do VERY well

A blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other on a flight from LA to NY.
The lawyer asks if she would like to play a fun game?
The blonde, tired, just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun.
He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5.00, and vice versa."
Again, she declines and tries to get some sleep.
The lawyer, now agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5.00, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00."

This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game.
The lawyer asks the first question.
"What's the distance from the earth to the moon?"
The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches into her purse, pulls out a $5.00 bill and hands it to the lawyer.

"Okay" says the lawyer, "your turn."
She asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four legs?"
The lawyer, puzzled, takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references, no answer.
He taps into the air phone with his modem and searches the net and the library of congress, no answer.

Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and coworkers, to no avail.
After an hour, he wakes the blonde, and hands her $500.00.

The blonde says, "Thank you," and turns back to get some more sleep.
The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, what's the answer?"

Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5.00, and goes back to sleep. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
And you thought blondes were dumb.

A big-city lawyer went duck hunting in rural North Alberta.
He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence.
As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing.
The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it."
The old farmer Peter replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."
The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial lawyers in Canada and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own."
The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in Alberta. We settle small disagreements like this with the 'Three Kick Rule.'
The lawyer asked, "What is the 'Three Kick Rule'?"
The Farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, I get to go first. I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth until someone gives up."
The lawyer quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger.
He agreed to abide by the local custom.
The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney.
His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel-toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees!
His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushing from his mouth.
The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end, sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie.
Summoning every bit of his will and remaining strength the lawyer very slowly managed to get to his feet.
Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, you old fart. Now it's my turn."
The old farmer smiled and said, "Nah, I give up. You can have the duck."

They added the gluten free as they knew someone with coeliac and had massive demand. Once it got out on the internet people travelled quite large distances to eat there. As you say, back a few years it was very difficult to find anywhere that catered specially for it.

hardly surprised :rolleyes::cool:
there's a chippy in Plymouth, on the quay, that specialise in GF .... always rammed (y) .. and mega :giggle:

Pam used to bake for the local McMillan coffee mornings every year and after the first year's news of her cakes got round, attendance doubled the following year, et sec, both for the quality and the fact it attracted a lot of coeliacs.

We have a local mobile catering biz - Gabriella's - (does wakes, weddings, etc. - we had her do Vicki's) Gay is coeliac too and she's the only one I know that can better Pam's GF cooking  .. always look forward to anything Gay is catering:giggle:
Shop bought GF is usually utter shite

Now now lads ...my daughter is a vegetarian....never preaches just gets on with it 😉
Me and the mrs don't eat a lot of meat either nowadays because the meat we eat is relatively expensive as its reared and processed locally, not trying to be righteous....I dont have issue with meat at all, in fact love it, it's just the over consumption of cheap meat which directly relates to poor animal welfare that doesn't do it for me.
