Agree with all that, but nowadays few want to start at the bottom and work their way up learning along the way. I was fortunate to get a decent day-release apprenticeship with a family firm back when I started. Been on my own nearly 8yrs now but with all the paperwork/red tape/admin it doesn’t exactly make me want to take on an apprentice much as I’d love to give someone the chance I got!
The trouble is the education system and schools now aren't allowed to separate/differentiate kids on any level. So everyone is sent down the academic uni route and if it ain't you're thing you're just ignored and forgotten about. Everyone has their thing. Its ok focusing on brains and maths or science etc but some of the most hands on and practical people out there can't add up and can barely write. Because this isn't recognsed and and accounted for in school the starting at the bottom thing really means bottom and thats a big problem for an employer as there's literally no start point.

Trouble with the Country is everything is focused on looks..... How would your local council feel about you parking your van on your street...... That tells all.

Anyway

1/3 the price of that HZM toy..... I know what I'd rather have....

There’s a lot going for a trade in what we do . I didn’t go great at school but I soon realised I was relatively practical and had a knack for being able to see how to get to the end of a job when at the start of it and this stood me well. I’ve done some really horrendous shifts over the years but also had some brilliant jobs and I’m pretty sure that’ll go for everyone on here . I possibly might of made more money doing something else but I can honestly say I’ve had a ball . I still look forward to going to work even if some days I can’t wait to get home.
I definitely wouldn’t change what I do . I’ve not got to the end of a career and begrudgingly need to punch in a few more years to get to retirement . Id bet most of you are in the same boat .
Schools need to realise that this is a great career choice along with all the other buildings trades and teach some practical skills in schools so the practical minded youngsters can see it as an option for them as a first choice not only if they can’t get a university degree as a nail technician .

We actually had a girl at college that went on to be a brilliant diesel pump and injector engineer, and a Mum!
I was joking around I actually think that some of the female influencers do more harm than good.
We should be attracting women to the industry and there is no reason they can't compete with men on site. But I think some of the influencers prancing around rather than showing off there skills is a step in the wrong direction.

Don't f****ng start me.

I've a major issue with a good 60% of women "influencers".

If you take a "selfie" showing 70% Tits and 30% face and then get upset that your getting mongs PMing you then you need to reevaluate your marketing strategy.

One a while back got upset because she got reprimanded by the firm she worked for for her second job/side job...... Yes, Onlyfans, How f****ng professional.

Bah.

The french have a baccalauréat general which heads towards uni and a masters or whatever and a baccalauréat pro which heads towards a trade.
Unfortunately it seems the baccalauréat pro is perceived to be for the "less intelligent " whereas the "cream" of the crop go on to uni.

sadly Vin, it all went south in the late 70,s/80,s .... I used to teach it ... (and some dross along the way)
when the workshops were getting sold off/cleared out in favour of desks and scissors/straws/bits of card, 'twas the end of practical skills learning in main stream secondary education. I wanted none of it, knocked it on the head and set up in biz, doing what i loved doing .... designing and making things :giggle:
no one'd take the liability for kids and sharps things ... let alone motorised WoMDs :cry:

Tbf in that respect if I could get paid to have a w**** then I'm sure I'd be a millionaire but it shouldn't be related to the trade. These women should be proud of there skills and show them off.
If you want to be a pornstar then don't bring your trade into it. As it reflects badly on the women actually doing a good job
