I usually flip them over and just hook the forks under one slat

Depends on what you doing with it. Looks like a standard so if it's on wagon go in on the short side to maximize space.
Long side a tad more stable.

Just wondered whether they’re stronger one way. I loaded a crate full of logs the other day, picked it up and half the feet fell off. Later occurred to me I could be doing a very simple thing wrongly.

I achieved similar the other day leading a trailer round with the forks. Looking backwards weaving round some trees. Came to put it down and couldn’t. Eventually removed without damage and without taking a fork off.

Hopefully they got thrown over the handles like the clowns on YouTube cctv and broke their neck in the field

I always go for under the slats, larger surface area of the pallet touching the fork…
