How much do you charge for yer pecker?

Used to be £60 for even taking it out to site with me, some jobs were a quick pop, and I had the occasional sit at the side of the crusher and break up the oversized all day - steady away, if your on it all day I just took my time and greased the entire back end every hour to ensure no damage was done, nip afew nuts/bolts up at the same time jobs a goodun

I've done the cutting up method before, especially internally it works quite well. drilled and fixed an expanding bolt lifting eye into each piece to lift them out. Very clean, minimal mess and quick too.
For once I am in agreement with Doobin and Gazcro, for the kind of work you do Routy, its not going to damage your machine as you wont use it long enough and at £50 extra for getting your pecker out , even for 10 mins, its good value for the customer and worth owning for you. Wacker plates, disc cutters and cat and gennys are also good ways of topping up the rate for the smaller owner op out there. Or in my case, justifying a higher rate than the competition. Very little overhead for a better return.
If the job needs all day hammering then you can come up with a rate to suit, or hire in if you are really worried about it. Machines are pretty tough and providing you keep up the greasing you wont do too much damage to the machine. Theres more damage to be done by using the pecker as a leaver or running it when its not engaged with anything. Used properly they are a great tool even on micro diggers and far better than being stood over a beaver pack!

Often get asked for day rate but we are mainly price work these days so its all my risk owning your own breaker helps in this instance if youve come across a minor obstruction i wouldnt charge as my own 'risk' but if it turns out to be days of breaking ill go back and say i didnt expect this neither did you can we come to an arrangement

On a micro / 1.9t operated

I would want and often do get £30/£35 ph minimum of 8hrs + vat inc diesel no half day prices, no hourly
Then extras would be £50 for breaker
Cat £25
Disc cutter £25
Wacker £25
Laser £25

It’s then I give a day rate about the same as you
When on domestic jobs the customer usually drips on about a quote. I alway tell them I’ll give them an estimate
Most of the time these jobs go well. But it’s the snags that quickly run away with yer time
Got a nice little domestic sewer connection from an old septic tank coming up soon, so I’ll need to give an accurate with my estimate. But I’ll be posting that job either on my blog or elsewhere

They don’t want to be bothered every hour when I ring up and ask ‘i need a Stihl saw, it’s £25 extra’ etc - just crack on and get the job done with no extras. Obviously to some customers that increased initial price puts them off abit,

That's a very good point Dave - some are just not interested in all the details JFDI spring to mind
Whilst some I tell, "You get me and all my gear at that price"
There again other want to know all the in and outs of a ducks arse.
My groundworker mates are OK because they know how much it cost to hire in the extras.
Obviously, I'm now reviewing that with my very expensive and productive pecker

Is £25 the going rate for chainsaw? I bought one for the last job then forgot to add it because I'm an idiot. I was going to add £45 but is that a bit much for a £300 tool?
