Hour Clock Replacement

Morning all,

Quick question, can a Curtis hour clock on JCB be easily just swapped out with a new one. The hour clock has failed, poxy digital one. Does the actual clock retain the hour data? Therefore the clock would go back to 0hrs or does the machine retain the information somewhere else?

I'd like to get the correct hours back on the machine you see but have no idea what they were and before buying a clock wanted to try and find out.

Take the clock out and put it in a warm dry place, beside a heater or something, then put it back it and try it.. have seen a few work this way

It still retains hours and also clocks them. They can come back to life but usually intermittently

It looks like its full of water. Rubbish design. I'll take it out and see if I can dry it out and go from there. Keep you posted!

We find leaving them
Running for hours and hours helps as does storing them inside for a good period. The airing cupboard trick can work . What is it exactly

Well one of today’s many tasks was to see if I could get the clock working again. I think i know what the issue is. Poor design and horn top button cover missing which is straight above hour clock, I might be wrong might just be from being outside in rain.

but clock was full of water when I managed to get front cover off.

Dried out but no joy so far. I think I know the answer but is there anyway to find out the hours on the clock if it’s failed?

I got a DIN plug looks a bit like that too poxy weather

I think the chances of it coming to life are slim but I’m alway hopeful!

just to take the rusty stuff out.. your be surprised how resilient these things are..

If you get it going on and it has more hours than you hoped... sometimes these things are left broken.

Tried prising it out but not sure it will come and last thing I want to do is break the board.

Give it a blast with contact cleaner then dry it out

Stick a new clock in run it for a year or two and claim it as a one owner low houred machine.

Well I’ve just this second cracked it!! Success. Got it out the plastic surround and got screen out carefully, cleaned it all up, dried and re-solder screen on. It works!!! So I’ve not got piece of mind.

I’ll order a new one now and try and seal it on arrival a little better

On another subject (I’m on a role/mission!!) Anyone know if the JCB 1THT has a different key type for the handle on seat for engine? The standard JCB ignition key won’t turn it. I’m guessing either different key as perhaps someone replaced handle, not sure. Or lock is knackered as it won’t turn.

Wd40 or equivalent the lock probably just sticky. Should be same key i would have thought.
