If the fan runs off the battery, it should be fine.

The "three wire" (particularly the cheap ones) may not pass as high current as the twin output reg.
Testing it is easy though -do what you're doing now - just run it and see if the battery goes flat :p

So the lifan has come to an end after around 15 months and not much use, its got a bit smokey and appears to have fuel in the oil.

Not too sure what to do, replace with a Honda or sack off the Wacker and get something newer as the agitator is getting a little loud too

if you've left the fuel turned on at all it could end up in the sump .. and that'll make it smokey as it's thin and by-passing the rings/valve stem seals .... change the oil and see how it is with some fresh blood ;)

Aye, has it ever had the oil changed? ;)

It's rare that genuine hondas let the fuel through into the engine when not used for a while but not impossible. The cheaper carbs on the nondas are a lot more common for it. Change oil for a start.

Will drain the oil and refill and see what happens, the slight knocking sound not too great though

I've got a lifan engine in my wacker 6.5hp iirc? Been good and reliable less trouble than my gxv160 lump! Just turn fuel tap off and run it out of juice whilst wacking! The local lawnmower guy wanted to buy engine off me to put in his racing go kart!

+1
I've had this happen to a 15hp Briggs - didn't end well for the conrod.

The problem was the float valve in the carby didn't seal well enough and with the cock left on, the fuel overflowed and drained into the sump.

Complete carbys are cheap out of china or you could take the valve needle to a mower shop and see if they can match it.

I've never had an issue with fuel getting into the sump in any of my Hondas or Chinese copies.

count yourself lucky then Doob ...... it happens ... not always, but it can .... 's why motor cycles have fuel taps... head of fuel will overcome the float needle valve over time, floods the carbs and the fuel either ends up in the filter, sump or both

I always try to remember to turn the fuel off with all my Honda equipment but it is only the wacker with a Chinese carb that I have noticed allowing fuel in to the engine when not used.

The valve needle is very easy to replace (if you can get to the carby).
Older needles were all 'brass on brass', but many now use a rubber tit for the sealing surface. These are better, but only if the material quality is up to spec (why I suggested using a genuine honda part)

Remove the bowl bolt (1)
(Bet you forgot to turn off the fuel - do it now)
Slide out the float hinge pin (2)
Float (3) and valve (4) will drop out.

Fit new needle to float, hold it up into the carb body and reinsert the hinge pin.
Refit bowl and retaining bolt.

Has anyone replaced a gx35 with a clone. I have a strimmer with a gx35 & its oil consumption is almost on par with its fuel consumption 😆

Too hot to work in the open today, so I spent some time working on the high pressure cleaner that sports a chonda engine.
For a while, it was getting difficult to start until finally it wouldn't. Tried a new plug - didn't help

It's surprisingly quick to strip the top end. Both the head and exhaust gaskets were blown.
Did nothing other than fit new gaskets and reassemble, so it'll be interesting to see if it lasts.

New (spare) Chonda arrived today. It'll probably do service on a water pump - depends a bit on the real power (vs claimed) and the noise level.
The box is unbranded, but the seller had clearly opened it up to add more padding, add 'honda' stickers and .. remove the fuel cap ...?

From the front, the difference becomes apparent
Wherever possible, I'm trying to ween myself off petrol
