Remove it from the spool, put a metal object inside and with the ignition on press the vib button, it should stay magnetised.
then try it with the engine running as it appears to be doing it whilst you're trying to operate it ... could be a (forgive the pun) vibration issue  so try it in your hand and then sat firmly on the machine

Have you fitted a mometary or latching switch? Think there's a little silver box under the dash that controls the vibration based on a few different things or at least that was the case on the Bomag 120-3 or 4 we overhauled.

Hi Rory,

It's a latching switch, I shall have a look for said silver box 👍

Wrong JD, Rich .... it's quite poss that the 'latching' for the button is done in that box and maintaining a live supply to it is p***ing it off .. try a push to make switch first .... if it then requires a second push to 'unlatch' it, that is what it is doing with a non-momentary switch in circuit ;)

Yeah as V8Druid says wrong JD, my username is from a tractor rather than track loader. Also I'm from Lancashire and my names Matt. Easy to get mixed up when not using our own names like yourself.

You've solved your issue then. The switch should be momentary the silver box is a latching relay that operates based on a pulse from the switch to turn vibrate on. Then a pulse for "off". It isn't actually a relay inside the silver container I think its transistor or MOSFET driven, with a bit of signal conditioning.

poor little tranny is in an endless signal loop with a latching switch .... let's hope it's not tooooooo PO-ed :rolleyes::(

Sorry Richard I had a right good hunt around the workshop this morning and couldn’t find it anywhere, got a feeling I may of sent it away with the machine it came from as a spare. Iirc it was about £250 😢
