Hello to all - and some dumper and backhoe loader advice please

I’d only operated drotts, telehandlers and farm machinery when I got in a 3CX the first time. Personally I think the difficulty is over-rated. The front bucket is easy, and once you’re in position the back end isn’t that hard. This guy is doing his own work in his own time, so isn‘t under the pressure most Of us are, so I’d say another vote for the 3CX.

Its not that I think using the arse end of a backhoe in itself is difficult its that depending on the job your going to tackle you may have to plan a few moves ahead to do the job efficiently or in some cases at all, that comes with experience, I know a few people with renovation projects over the years that have bought an old 3C or 3CX and ended up beaten with it and going to an old 4/5 ton digger with much more satisfactory results.

Thats what I have found anyhow, but others may have had different experiences of course and the man in question may even get on it and be a natural

Sounds like he’s got plenty of room to work, so that’s in favour of a 3CX. Once you get into moving material about, why have two machines when one will do the lot? I had all Friday moving fill and jumping between a 7 tonne dumper and 239 CTL, and it gets monotonous jumping from one to the other. Over the same distance I could have done the job a lot faster on my own with an old black cab 3CX. Take your point about planning, but you need to do that anyway to get anything done.

best thing is to look at all the elements of the job and weigh up the best way to tackle each bit, it’ll soon be obvious which is going to be best buy. Is there a lot of material To shift and stockpile? Front bucket. Trees to knock down and shift? Again a 4in 1 is excellent, and far safer than pulling trees towards yourself with a 360. Big area to grade And stone up? You can do it with a 360 but you can do it a hell of a lot faster with a front bucket. You’ve got the forks on the front bucket for pallets and timber. Big area to excavate? Once you get the hang of the arse end a 3CX with extra dig will take as big a bucket as a 5 - 6 tonnes and have more reach. And no, I haven’t got one to sell. I’m almost talking myself into buying one.

Lets just say a quick learner with some natural aptitude could benefit from the versatility of a 3CX but your average joe will get better results with a 6t and Dumper

I was a slow learner. Really struggled with dumpers.

I have had a few who could never put the fiddlesticks thing in the right place never made a tidy heap, always ran in the wet spot....
