Has my ram lost a couple of inches?

Ram that does the nod/scoop/crowd on my little skidsteer. That’s as far as it’ll nod forward at the moment. 6” of chrome out, 11” to the cylinder weld, 12.5” to the end of the cylinder where the bit of green bungee is. I’m sure it used to nod forward a bit more than this. Am I imagining it and that does just look like the limit? Could I have bent the ram, sucked the bend back in but am now unable to push the bend back out? It looks like it’s got another couple of inches to give.

looking at the return port's position and allowing at least 2+" for the piston assembly, I wouldn't think it's far off TBH

Ah. The piston bit inside only moves between the ports. Got it.

Looks a bit short on stroke to me. Have you lost dump angle, and does it make any strange noises at the end of stroke? I’d be tempted to have a look inside the ram. Long shot, but are you short of hyd. Oil? Start easy.

perhaps a gnat's Bri, but don't think it's that far off TBH ... I've been conservative with the piston, below ..... although i'd have thought the pick up'd dump a bit more, looking at the geometry of it

Looking at the geometry of the tip linkage those extra inches at that point would make a huge difference. Also zoom in an you can see what looks like witness marks when in the past the clevis on the end of the ram use to make contact with the piece of angle

did look at that but think it's more tish than burring, plus if it had the clevis end'd likely be bent on the rod

I think looking at the pivot points and the way the ram is mounted that it might just be loose enough to stop it bending. Hard to picture how it all moves and what pivots and what doesn't.

It can’t be far out, by the time the piston gets to the other end there won’t be a lot of rod left!

that looks bad for tipping angle to me if it was raised it would be nigh on flat.

Doesn’t look right at all to me. I’ll photograph my Sherpa tomorrow and measure the ram overall length and stroke.

I can’t imagine the ram and geometry has changed from when they used to be Skidster like yours.

My Sherpa will hold the hitch plate nearly flat with the boom raised. The ram stroke looks much longer too.

I have a horrible feeling I was right in the first post and I’ve bent the root of the ram monstering about with the grab nodded fully forward. It does sound like something I might have done (I absolutely have done that).

Job for tomorrow once I have doobin’s data in hand.

bear in mind that Doob's also has an extra 2" -ish of rod extended permanently (the black painted bit )
plus the geometry of that bucket puts the back of that at circa 45-50 degs to the horizontal. from memory most skidsteer buckets backs are more upright, giving a greater dump angle

I think it has a self levelling linkage so will be the same angle though the whole lift cycle

I was only measuring the 6” of the chrome to the oily tide mark. The other inch or two or whatever could be black too.
