@Left hooker I have found the same, I’m considering swapping my 3ton swivel for a straight tip with a cab, it’s surprising how many days I’ve lost due to bad weather when we could of cracked on without making a mess, but it wasn’t fair to have someone sat on the dumper in -10! Plus like you say dig out is so much easier on straight tips!

I also got myself a 14ton dump trailer, brilliant when I’m working on my own as it saves a lot of on/off messing around! Current job and the next one the sites are about 3 acres in size, a fair old travel on a dumper! Worked out cheaper than a used 6ton straight tip, & tractor is parked up when I’m on the machines anyway so was a no brainer!

Don't own any always hire as never know what size you need till the job comes in
With the tilty on 5t and the 18t 360s I only prefer straight tip theses days as you can clean out with bucket better than a swivel with curved sides

Had this on hire other day and after driving a raft of new dumpers I prefer this any day over the horn beeping every move , engines with no poke ,won't tip it's full contents out on the flat and level modern crap

Only other dumper I like is the 9/10t neuson straight tip with or without cab

I bought my dumper brand new
As has been said, the price of new standard dumpers seems ridiculous compared to diggers! And then there's the way the bloody horn beeps for 'saftey'
I did look at a couple of second hand 3 tonners a couple of years ago, but prices were already mad high for old stuff.
I will probably look into it again (older, used machine) this summer, but a 2 ton, ideally high tip swivel, would be more suitable now.

Cup holder and tea making facilities wouldn't go amiss.
Just some level of comfort would be nice. I've spent all week on one rattling up and down a rough hill path. Feel buggered!

Can't you just put a smaller bucket on??
I always use a 600 bucket when working out of a dumper but then we don't ever have toothed buckets on site.

Another thing that may have already occured to everyone else but only dawned on me this week is that if you park the dumper side on and swivel the skip so the back is facing the digger then you can empty it far easier and quicker.

Second hand everytime. Couldn’t justify a new dumper. An old one that has been given abit of care is just as reliable as new. Plus my three combined wouldn’t come near to the price of a new one. And with a quick 5 gallon overhaul they can look just as good as new. If there was a brand new cab less one sitting on the site and my age’n old barford. I know which one I would be getting into if it was raining.

Always had secondhand ,ran an old 7000 for 15 years and sold for a grand less than we paid for it.Now run a 2006 terex 3ton and just bought a 2016 jcb 3t swivel,horrible thing compared to the 06.
Did consider a new thwaites 3ton asit would fit on a plant trailer not just a flat bed,but could not even get a price as availability was non existent.
Haveseen new terex 3 tonners at over 20 grand which considering the return is pretty heavy in my opinion.

Mine was 17,200 plus vat in 2018, with road lights, they are probably 5k more now! Got 2500 px for my old knackard one so it wasn’t such a big hit.

I think you are right,I had a 15k top figure in mind for something nearly new,but I bought the best I could find at the timemost ,were complete crap.(Came from Barnes Plant,and is tidy and was a fair price but they’re just not the nicest dumper to use in my opinion.)Bought a used mechalec skip loaderalso last year and that is a cracking machine to use ,way nicer than a Thwaites.

That trailer was cheaper than a used 6 ton straight tip? I think I gave £5 grand for our barford straight tip about 10 years ago? Aren’t those trailers like £16-20k

My broughan was cheaper… but they have gone up considerably since I had mine last year!
