One thing my trailer instructor taught me stuck...."command the road lad" ever since I've followed that mantra ..
yep ... make the bas*rds brake and get over ... do it all the time on our road here .... come at you 3 ft from the hedge, going like hell ... soon get over and slow down when I assume the centre of the road position

their
'god given right to the road' suddenly vanishes when self preservation kicks in

"Command the road, but be prepared to give up 50% or more of your side - if you have to." .. my old man

... once had to take to the scenery on a sweeping right hander, when we met an on-comer, who'd overcooked it, on our side of the road...
he turned to me after and said
"See what I mean?" .... a lesser reaction would've resulted in a 100-ish mph head on ..... good job there was a decent verge - and he'd already assessed it -- in case....
. lesson never forgotten - always know where your escape route is, in case you need it -- I was probably 18-ish
