Hard Hats (colour codes)

Hi all,

Went to buy a few hard hats last week and there was an array of colours I grabbed the first 2 I seen but I know some some sites have a code, eg. the foreman has a red one and first aidder is green etc.

Is there a set code? Or does a site/contractor set there own etc.

We don't be on to many "big" jobs that would be picky about this, but Its nice to know if I'm doing this right.
Plus I don't really want some lad with half his hand missing come running up to me because I have a green hard hat on

There is a standard code I think it's-
Black for in charge
White for most people
Blue if you can't be trusted to be left alone
Orange for slinger/signaller
Green for first aid

In reality just wear white and you'll be fine

Back in the 80s I worked on a job at Laporte chemical factory in Luton . We all wore yellow hats and the bosses blue . One lad that travelled in our van had a blue hat from an old job and insisted on wearing it all the time. The rest of us thinking he was a boss on seeing him approach would grab shovels and fire up plant like we were flat out all day . He thought this was great. No matter how much we protested he wouldn’t ditch the hat . Out of badness after we dropped him off one night on the way home one of the boys filled his blue hat with machine grease. The next morning he plonked the hat on his head not noticing the grease .
I have never laughed as much as I did when he took the hat off in the cafe at tea time and the grease had dropped down and sat on top of his mullet !

you need one of these ..... never fails to raise a smile when I get out of Russ's Liebherr



comes complete with half a dozen sets of foam inserts to size it with and is the most comfortable hard hat I've ever had ... don't know you have it on

A mate brought it back from Oz for me ....

I was working on a us air base with Costains and one of the General Forman had 5 stars on the side of his hat like the Yanks , dont think he worked out why we all called him bungalow
