Thought I'd start a blog of the random things I get upto. Some things are the usual boring bits but sometimes it's interesting (well to me it is) 🙂

I'll update when I remember to take pictures but I promise I'll try my best.

Anyway here's a recent one.

Extra car parking spaces.
There was 7 loads out and 49.5t of planings in, bloody glad I used planings it would of been a total nightmare if type1 had been used with how wet its been.

It was too big an area for my usual tarmacers so had a firm come in with a barbour greene and obviously smashed it off in the day.

Just need to find some dry top soil 🤣😱 to tidy up the backs of the kerbs.

That's wet! Do you find planings go down better when wet than type1 / 803? I've got some farm track and parking areas to sort and tidy next week at the folk's place and was planning on using the grey 803 as it always seems to go down hard and tight and clean. I've been offered planings for a bit extra.

In this instance the planings were the better option, there was a hell of amount of water running down there especially as it had been 3 weeks from planings to the tarmacers turning up.

Type 1 is good, just sometimes it holds water within the fines and goes spongey where as the planings the water goes through.
Once type1 had dried out after been soaking it sets firm.
In most instances I would use stone.

Planings round here are just over half the price of type1, so that in certain circumstances has a bearing on choice too.

Planings are dearer than 803 here..

Can’t buy planings here anymore!! Should of brimmed the yard when they were only £9/ton delivered 🤦‍♂️
Dont know where you are, guessing the rich footballers side of the M6 , so may be a bit far but.
The farm where the Kelsall show is held have/ had 100`s of tonnes of planings for sale, and a Farmer in Faddiley used to have some @Monkeybusiness more know.

Probably too far unless they are literally £2/ton!

What price are they ex yard @hiluxman ?
The last price I had was £7.50 pt ex vat. Collect.

Or £16pt delivered off a local company. On 10t loads above.

And around £25pt if collected from local builders yards (they then add delivery on that too for those that want it delivered) but this is more a place where local builders/landscapers pick only 1 or 2t up at a time.

Another fine mess underway.

Big pond going in in the posh parts of Sheffield.

The guys installing the pond is all they do, nothing else and they work on any size of pond, whether it's a new build, a tear out and start again to dredging and maintenance.

I'll update more pictures as the job goes on.

Can’t see Mr Newsome giving anything away tbh!
The ‘poor farmer’ in Faddiley (Graham) is a very good friend of mine but even he struggles to get planings now (and he had 8 wheelers taking them straight off the belt, used to shift thousands of tonnes). I think the contract changed and everything goes to a recycling yard somewhere now (or his face didn’t fit with the new people)…

Yeah, that's the usual case. Those that have them in abundance have it for a few years and then it's all change and someone else has them in abundance.

Mr Newsome and Graham used to be in business together. I had a load of granite sets off them when I bought my house, 30 years ago. (Morris 1000 and trailer)😆
