I completely agree @V8Druid. I also think we are in danger, as it gets closer to the deadline, of oil becoming in short supply. Which wont only affect any of us still driving diesel cars about - remember oil is vital to much plastic production and we use an awful lot of that!
I think its a real shame there are viable oilfields out there in the UK control that wont be used and instead we import instead - putting us at the ransom of other countries prices.
A smarter decision would be to have our own oilfields, control what the oil is used for (there's no way we are going to completely get ourselves off oil dependency in the next 100 years - we still use coal lol that's some old tech!) and no doubt use it to build materials for greener, alternative sources of energy for the longer term.
Which is what we will end up doing anyway - we will just pay a premium to import it from Russia
But hey it makes good green headlines today....

... could've been self sufficient for centuries if all the previous governments hadn't sold us down the bloody river selling it off ... for what is now a pittance
