Flail

I have a flail for my machine, it keeps blowing seals so give up with it.. plus my hedge man is half the hourly rate as me and 5 times faster with more reach! So why bother?!
Little jobs where there is some clearance to do in advance of the actual job, but you're right, unless it was cheap n hassle free maybe not.

I really want to do a load of tet - it literally passes my door (but all of it near here is very dull/easy tbh). I have ridden plenty of the Welsh sections but not as part of the route (if that makes sense?).
My old 990 Adventure does everything I want a bike to do, and there is nothing else about (old or new) that improves upon it in my opinion. And it even crashes well!
I keep looking at 1190R Adventures as they are still very capable but a lot more refined for long motorway/autoroute blasts - I’ve also been tempted by a couple of random rat-bikes (for no other reason than I thought they looked a bit of fun!), and have considered building/commisioning something based around the LC8 engine (as I’ve not seen one done and there are relatively cheap donor bikes available).
But life is busy and money is quickly spent on more important stuff, so these are dreams/ideas/wishes as much as anything else (unless something literally turns up under my nose, in which case a deal may have to be done!).
There is a 450exc in boxes/bits in my shed that I stripped in my last house - we have lived here for 8 years so that gives a sad insight into how much time I give to motorbiking… Am heading to Ireland with a couple of mates for 3 or 4 nights next month - that will be the first time I’ve sat on a bike since I rode to Italy last July. A mate has been using my 990 for commuting for the last couple of months so I’m going to have to drag it back off him soon!
The 990 adv is good but i found my old one a little daft as it was either wheelspinning under excelleration when off road ( rapidly wearing out the rear tyre) or i was shitting myself trying to stop 200kg of bike on gravel before the next corner. I think really i was not heroic enough for it.
I wasnt that impressed with my 640e that got pinched either. It was like a paint shaker on the road and you couldnt ride it slow enough, off road, for the tecky bits.
I like the look of the new drz4s or maybe the sherco 500sef but i really need to try out my kdx200 before getting anything else incase i decide to go back to two strokes.

The 690 enduro might be a good compromise?

Ktm deserve all the s**t they get but there's no deny the fact they put together a fun bike.

Maybe, I suppose it depends what matters to you. Ive had a few big thumpers and whilst they can cruise at 70+ they are not very comfortable at that speed and they destroy the rear knobblie if your heavy handed on the throttle. Off road they suck with all that weight and recipricating mass.
250 thumpers are obviously a bit lacking on the road, I had a 250l in oz and it was a bit weak and suspension was rubbish So I think 400 could be the sweet spot.
I did have a 450 exc and that was great but a bit old so i regretably sold it.

have had a few XT500,s (bastards to start, that they are) and not the greatest on or off road - powerful but dig holes quicker than you can blink ... The XT600 Tenere, sat in my box, was a whole different tool ....... mono on the back end, upside downers on the front and loads of travel and guts :giggle: ... just don't put too much in the tank, off roading (30ltr capacity) - was a nice ride in its day
keep promising myself to get it out and go through it to ride it

Yeh - I liked it ... big sandcross on the back - never got stuck, but exciting on wet tar .. just registered with me that she's tax and MOT exempt this year - '85 on a B plate ... will get the log book out and see when :giggle::giggle: ... just have to MOT it first, 'fore applying though

no leccy hoof on this either - early ones weren't - but has a decent decomp set up on it and starts a whole lot better than the 500 ever did
