Filtering Diesel

I’ve got a couple of 10 gallon tubs with diesel in, one about half full the other three quarters full, they have been stored for a year or so & i recon they might have a bit of debris in them, so I want to filter the diesel before I stick it in the machine.
Do you guys use these paper filters you can fit into a funnel, a bit of old cloth, a pair of the wife’s tights ( then stick em back in the drawer when you’ve finished😉) or one of these filter funnels, like Mr funnel, that is supposed to separate any water in the diesel as well as the muck & crud.

Personally I'd top up the cans with any two stroke mix that isn't fresh or other dubious fuels drained out of non running machines and use the mix for part washing. Modern fuels do not keep well and the cost of sorting out contaminated systems far outweighs the cost of "wasted" fuel .........
