So seen this today, metal seems to just be flaking away, it's not been hit by anything as it's the boom swing ram that sits in the frame

Clean it off and let’s have a good look. If I didn’t know better I’d say it looks like corroded aluminium.

I was going to joke about some serious mice that have been at that, but then noticed has something been at the wiring or just trick of the photo?

was my thoughts exactly Doob an ali alloy of some description ... almost a die cast end cap

No, not anywhere remotely close to any seas, don't think any road grit would get up there either as normally sits on the tipper trailer when moved with the two tracked dumpers in front of it

Id say its an aluminium end cap of some sort, salt/corrosion likely.

Should be able to get them separately.... really depends on the manufacturer

Is it that bad that it needs a new end cap..? Lather some thick waxoyl on it and it should be rite… maybe

To be honest I'm hoping to not have to change it, will give it a coating of underbody sealant and monitor it

put a small magnet to it, but sure likes like alloy to me, as Doob and I said last night
