Dumper camera

Done a wee job which took a couple of days and my dumper was committed elsewhere so hired this 6 tonne thwaites .

No, I didn’t roll it , I can’t figure out why some pics decide to turn 90 feckin degrees .
Anyway . I noted it has a front facing camera . Here it is .
What on earth is the point of it ???? When would it be safe to look down there to see it .

I think its to tick the box for visibility, 1 metre @ 1 metre (or some similar buzz words)

I’ve tried it . It’s more dangerous looking down trying to view it and loosing site of everything else around you while you do so .

Probably more of a before setting off thing like rear view cameras on lorrys
You can't actually reverse using them but you can check no-one is stood there

So the only time you’d need to look at it would be when you got on the dumper in the first place as it’s to dangerous to do it when your operating it . So if you looked in front of the skip before you mount that would suffice .
I think there’s more chance of an accident happening from someone trying to look at it whilst driving !

I was thinking more on a busy site when you've been leaning over the back of the seat having a chat with your mate for the last 10 minutes.
Or sat half asleep looking at your phone.

Also they vary in position the thwaites I've driven was on a bracket off the grab rail
Don't know if that was a genuine thwaites bracket or the hire companies creation but was in an ideal place to get smacked by muck falling out the bucket

i would assume its for a glance to make sure your not about to run a person over tying their shoelaces infront of your skip ..

The camera will take .05 seconds to get dirt and concrete on it

We had one on a hire dumper and it was at the top of the dash behind the wheel you could glance at it quite easily it was fairly pointless on a 6t though I can see the point on a 9t though some of them are pretty blind on the front

Exactly, had this on a hired thwaites 7ton super viz. complete load of nonsense- couldn’t even see the screen properly as daylight just reflected off it. And of course being superviz and having a low front of the skip (less capacity) I just heaped it up more!
