The Vivax cameras also have a traceable line. Most drain cameras have built in sonde but Vivax have the whole reel traceable

And for any of this kit either hire or purchase I can thoroughly recommend dcr hire.

The reel is the sonde, I have hired one a couple of times not many places stock them but can push up a water pipe and I am sure the ones I had the whole reel is live so you can chase the line, rather than having to either mark the spot then push the reel 1m or so then re scan or having to try and scan as someone slowly pushes it
Yeah thats what I have. If anyone needs a loan - Devon Cornwall Border.

How do you sterilise anything that you push up a water pipe out of interest?
I guess there are strict protocols with regards having separate kit for water and drainage? How is that monitored?

Should have separate tools for blue and brown works. Right down to separate PPE. And I think even to the point seperate employees. Not sure but I think you can only hold an eusr card for one the other.

That’s the way!
Could always tape on some wire to a standard cobra and liven it up with the genny 😆

Baby wipe
I steam clean mine if I think it needs it. And it usually comes out browner from water pipes than it does from foul pipes! And a handwipe with antiseptic spray to cleanse as you let it enter anything clean, and the same when it comes back out to save making the roll messy.

It's this sort of reel I'd like for finding the route of plastic water pipes and hopefully for pinpointing damage.
For sewer stuff a screw on sonde that will operate on a frequency thats better at greater depth makes more sense, so no chance of cross contamination.

This post makes me feel really sick!!! (But is no doubt an honest reality of what goes on in the plumbing world… ).

Still tricky to find, I’ve got since for rods but it’s much easier with tracer cobra as you can follow it in, I hate cat scans they’re so un precise or maybe just mine always going off and you never know if it’s what you’re actually tracing

The only cure for that is practice. I don't think most on here will use them enough to get the best out of them
