The filter doesn't screw onto the block, it pushes in and then is clamped down by a pair of washers which crush into a rebate in the housing.

I don't think I'd pushed it in far enough so the washers hadn't seated properly.

Yeah didn't fancy pulling that injector out at 7pm on a Sunday, home time!

Did you shut it down yourself when filter popped out?

Think so yes, I was right next to it so can't have run for more than a couple of seconds after the filter popped.
Has the plunger for fuel shut off stuck?
Feels like it is activating fine, is there a way I can check it more directly?

I've got a feeling it needs bleeding more thoroughly but it's a sod to do on a pull start, especially on your own when the pull cord is on the opposite side as the injector. Can it be turned over with an impact gun on the crank pulley or is that a bad idea?
