Just do NPORS assessment, that’s what I did. They come out to your site spend a morning doing a bit of theory and then make you go and do a few basic tasks- job done. It might not get you on to building sites but fine for ticking the ‘have you got a digger ticket’ box.

Agree 100% with this. NPORS test you on your machine and at your place of work. What's more, the tester is actually capable of driving a digger, whereas it used to be the case that a CPCS tester didn't need to be machine competent, just to know what to look for.

I did NPORS and have the CSCS hologram on my card.
Subsequently did the NVQ and cannot for the life of me find out what it cost (but am sure it wasn’t £800).
NVQ was a day in a classroom writing essays about diggers (I s**t you not) and then an hour playing on a 13 tonner. Biggest waste of time and money out there, but it extended my card!
