Saddest thing about it is they think they can ticket their way out of nobody having responsibility for anything anymore and that bucket and hitch pic proves you can't. Whoever was using that on there would likely have more boxes ticked than me but it means jack if that's their attitude.

Chains over teeth, Untested gear, zero ability to segregate plant and pedestrians, happily running f***ed gear with no worries..... I've seen it all and every time the worst offenders are large Civils firms!
The above has since been investigated..... Lack of grease, sheared retaining bolts (Due to the pin biting and turning) and pins backing out!...... Now I know and you know that is purely operator lack of greasing care... Management drew other things to point blame on rather than squarely blaming the people at fault!

A five day course would be for someone who`s never seen a digger before
If you can operate an excavator, you should (or used to be able to) just do the assessment, it would be worth asking the training provider, it would save some money, because you`ll end up paying them some more to do the NQV to get the blue card

Yes, usually for under £1000. Call the center and say you have good experience driving the machines, they will put you on a one day theory (worth doing the answers aren't always straightforward) and test you on the Friday. Every one Ive done like this, they give you a quick go in the machine in the afternoon of the first day too so you have confidence in what the test involves. They want to pass you so are quite keen to make sure you can do it.

Had another chat this morning with a couple places.
Both seem to think 220 hours on a micro and 14hrs on 3.5t is not enough to pass on a 2 day course for above and below 10t.
To be fair the Surrey one said come and have a go to see.
It's looking like £2160 + travel for 5day cpcs and within 2 years I would need to pay £800 for nvq to get a blue card that should last 5 years and then will need to do CSCS to renew.
If you don't do nvq the cpcs only lasts 2 years and will need to be redone at £1000.
All that to sporadically earn £12 a hour on the island.
There is a npors person on the island but they are off sick at the moment.
I've spoken to a couple employers on the mainland and neither were fussed about tickets but after travel and CIS deductions I would earn about £60-£80 a day.
Think I'll hold off the tickets for now and see if there is any work going around Portsmouth , Southampton way and see what they need.

That's what I'm thinking. If I had it I could spend that £3000-£4000 on another machine like a stump grinder or tipper trailer to make a bit more cash, at least if they didn't earn anything I could then sell them.

Just do NPORS assessment, that’s what I did. They come out to your site spend a morning doing a bit of theory and then make you go and do a few basic tasks- job done. It might not get you on to building sites but fine for ticking the ‘have you got a digger ticket’ box.
