Digger mounted wacker

Picked this up from JB Equipment, about 2k plus vat. Seems good. Mounted my hitch plate from my little grab to test it, will get a proper plate made up soon.

I tried it around the yard. It knocked a two foot high pile of loose type 1 into 1 foot high pretty rock hard- will have to put the ripper through it before I try to load it with the forklift bucket A single brick under it was reduced to good fill pretty easily, so I'd say it will put rough crush down fairly well. It weighs 200kg. Was this or a big forward/reverse and this sit in well with my 'less labour' ethos. It should work (but not as well) on my 2 ton also.

Funny how you buy things and then straight away you find a use for them. Got a small pond to infill to then lay a patio over. Should be perfect. Also got a twenty metre stretch of sandstone driveway up a fairly steep hill to rip and re-level. Then hopeully some local bridleways up on the hill. Will also be ideal for small driveways.

Don't worry @Regy53 , I'm still toying with the idea of replacing my cheapo petrol wacker with a big Lumag single direction machine

@doobin whats the quality like of the JB attachments? They do a few that interests me and seem reasonably priced and well made?

Seems OK. Pretty thick plate. Not made by them though, made abroad.

Looks smart enough only trouble on a smaller machine is by the time I’ve tracked around id of scuffed it up

Ive thought of them a couple of times over the years but have not been sure about the things like tracking back over what you have prepped ready for compaction and screwing it all up or buggering about with the pipes all the time and if you have several machines then it only fits the one ?? If I had ec oil and could grade a section spin round and pop the plate on and finish as you go then maybe
Not being negative you might find its brilliant....be interested to see how you get on with it in practice

I’d also imagine it would be best fitted in conjunction with a powertilt hitch. Probably fine if your on the level but for hill paths etc where cambers might be involved...

I'm hinking its mainly for little jobs, I guess I'd start at the back with the blade set to float and work my way out. Any large tracks there's no substiture for a 1200 roller, but for 15 m of uphill track or a front driveway I reckon she'll be handy.

Be the muts on the 3 tonner with long reach even if you turned the hitch plate 90 degrees so you could track adjacent to the path. I’m all for attachments over blokes

Yeah it might not- but then you see engcons and tilts used with breakers and they seems to stand up to it?

Compactors are OK because it's a softer vibration - all of the big three tilty manufacturers offer compactors as a part of their range. Breakers are different and I know that quite a few Owner Ops will hire in a machine with a breaker rather than put one on their own. Last time I looked only Rototilt would allow a breaker and then only for a limited period, although that advice may have changed @CPS ?

There good tools, we have two for our 20 ton machine use them mainly for back filling drainage trenches. Come in handy for putting in sheet piles as well as the odd fence post.

Often thought be handy for wacking trenches back in or something deep enough you don't wanna put a man in there, but don't have enough of those jobs to justify it. I get what you say about less labour but for me it ties the digger up wacking whereas you could carry on grading out and have someone else wack if it was a diesel plate.

Yes a rammax is so fast at compacting you can hardly keep in front of it which stops compactors taking off. They also cost the same as a decent size forward/reverse plate

One man can run a Rammax and a digger without leaving the cab too..... Without f****ng EC oil.

A contractor locally uses one of these on his 6 tonner for compacting trenches. Quite quick with a hydraulic hitch to put stone in then swap to the wheel. Probably limited use though.

Different materials and types of compaction. A wheel will be better for clays and soils. Plate better for granular fill like type 1.

Bashing the s**t out of the bottom of the bucket is dynamic compaction and is good for deep clay compaction

It has made me realise something. @doobin clearly has too much spare cash knocking about, why didn't you just buy a ditching bucket be far cheaper
