Daf auto advice

Well looks like a deal is done on it. Was one of the tidier trucks I've seen and with it been 10t over the usual 7.5t offerings should fit in to my plans nicely.

So in a few weeks I'll have a tidy sprinter tipper for sale and a 3.0l iveco dropsider.

What does the daf run over the weighbridge at ??

Probably about 5t.... Be on the 8 stud axles..... Might even be able to uprate it to 12t without much issue, worth looking at the design weights on the ministry plate

I was wondering how much the bigger axles add as the contract I'm on requires a 7.5t lorry but in reality they are pretty pointless. The boss doesn't like the iveco dailys but may be prepared to go to a 12t if we can can up productivity enough to cover the cost. Which realistically requires a 7t payload.

Yes 5t payload and as Rory says on 8stud axles. Most 7.5t are down to 2.5t to 3t payload, obviously without counting a mitsi or Isuzu 7.5t with a light body.

Good point on the 12t Rory I'll have a look when I get her home.

13t tipper will sit at around 7t payload..... 13t also sits on the next size up tyres which drastically helps with ground clearance. 14/15t will sit at around 8t capacity (15t sits on bigger tyres again).

Beyond 15t the road tax jumps up..... likewise the width becomes a PITA.

Lorries..... Smaller = More Money

I said I don't want as big as a 15t as will loose the steering lock and make the back to high.
7.5t can be loaded with a 1.5t machine just about and can do a u turn with a twin axle ifor in a gateway.
If we can't do that we may aswell have an 18t.
The 12t wagons coming out the tarmac plant seem to be leaving with a serious load but want to know exactly how much is possible so I can sell the idea.

15t has the same lock as the littleun's.... More about length than anything.

If your shrewd and get something other than a basic tipper you can load it with a mini without loosing payload ;)

All I can say is the 10t daf is no bigger than what a 7.5t is. Body wise she has got slightly higher sides but nothing that would create issues.

The 18t grab you'd not want to load with a 1.5 or 2t machine. Mine has dropsides so you could if required but then why would you with a grab fitted.

Lenght and overhang has lots to do with it all.

I've had many trucks and set ups over years I'm only now in a position to get the best to suit my needs

I picked the lorry up over the weekend and can't fault it all. Plenty of go in it even with a load on.

I does have a slight issue in that it won't build air on tickover so further investigation into that is needed but few revs and she fills up nicely and stays full on the road blows off as should. So poss a slight leak (although can't hear) from compressor or poss seals in compressor not great. I've also been told to look if there's any build up in the compressor feed line.

But overall she should be another good addition.

On the 7.5t daf I drive the tip gear leaks air if the PTO switch isn't shut off which has caught a few people out.
The exhaust brake also get stuck slightly on if they haven't been used for a while which again causes a leak but you usually notice engine pitch being off when that happens

On DAF LF's there is a small air tank inline in the steel pipe between the air drier and the compressor, that is prone to corrosion. It's a bit smaller than the size of a fizzy drink can.

I saw that earlier, I'll give it a better look tomorrow as it did look a little crispy
