had a few bits to clean off the next part
and we're back to this 'lump'
set up and a few bits tacked in place ... yet more bits of the carrier frame coming into play
tacked up and a few braces to keep things parallel and square ... then lifted it off onto the bench for some hot stick
assembled and any of the grinder cuts/gouges filled
so on to the next bits .... out with the 70 mil. hole saw again
mirror pair holed
then a bit of a mod required
having just skimmed through the huge number of pix I have of this ...
and there was a hell of a lot of nailing together after this ...
gonna let the pix do the talking for some of the next posts ...

ok - next bit .....
scalloped ... just in case it ever ended up under the VA-r
this was gonna need some extra-long pins
so set up, paralleled, squared and trued up
and clamped
t'other bit'd had a few gusseted brackets added
ready for the holey bit to mount to
followed by a LOT of hot stick ... from all sorts of angles
'til I had most of it nailed ......

time to check the fit with the Miller ....... and suss a few details
like where to put a few notches and plates
then get that lot consolidated
ready to plant it in place
with it secured well enough to chuck it about ....
was time to start rolling it about to get at al the various angles required to get some nice downhand runs on everything
could've slagged it off a bit better

can't beat a downhand weld position to really get it down

next up ..... lose the tilt ram fixtures
came off reasonably easily
and all cleaned up
stood and a quick coat ... then determine what the beast weighed
how much ? ........ then time for some plumbing ....
spare line I had left over from the VA-r tilt lines after swapping them to 1/4" on there hence the extra M/F union plus I had to convert from JIC to BSP
the ISO A is now a FF and use the line that usually feeds the VA-r ... as it's single acting Mog told me how to sort the double acting to work, by routing the other side of the service straight back to tank, which allows this side to drain down .. I use the breaker's tank line to plumb the other side of the service into with a short line
and a trial
this mast had a 2.5t capacity on the Toyota it came off ...... the test weight is 1200kgs .... mast has an 18' 6" lift
and the one that sorts the men from the boys ....... and scares the hell out of the trees

humings're far more versatile
....I have a tree saw for it ---- it's called Gareth .... keeps nagging me about trimming all the dead out of t'other trees and finishing off the one we topped out then ... had a whale of a time up there and got a new Stihl he wants to exercise
as said elsewhere - BIL has been up there and says it's way more stable than any cherry picker he's ever been in ... technique is put the boom where you want it and then elevate the FLT mast ....'s a tad interesting trying to make adjustments when the mast's full up
..... the boom gives you reach and the mast gets you up there

If you crowned it at full stick that be some ride in the baskethumings're far more versatile

little quicky next ...... the blade forks were a lot lighter than the 4+tonners and wanted to be able to use them under the VA-r ......
so.....
adaptor required ....
so needed to recreate the profile of the top of the blade on the 'Drema
next up was a method of picking up said top profile .....
basics assembled
few more bits needed
and some securing points required
and nailed together plus an end plate
time for the next bits

can't beat a nice 50mm broach for some clean holes
..................................................................................................................................................................................... didn't have any 50 solid kicking about so this was the next best thing to hand .. in retrospect - should've gotten some solid and kept this
however .. was to hand and job did ... set up square, parallel and true on some spacers off the flat bench top ... my big Vee block is the perfect size for spacing, with a little thin card to assist in getting it back out after the hot stick's been applied
and dropped onto the adaptor
then consolidated
gotta love a chance to lay down some nice welds

a little quick one that's come in handy now and again ... how to dangle yer danglies ... have three rotators in total from various att.s I've acquired and they all have their own dedicated 'dangler' ... will have to look for the other two ....
basically an easy way to attach yer rotator on yer hitch ........................................................................................................ marked the saw hole first, then drilled it, then sawed out to size - wanted the slug as a pin end cap
the Steinweg is missing a two way link as it was incorporated in the carrier and might make it one some time, but have a choice of two others .. this however is a pin on as opposed to the two Kins which are bolt on
just a gash pin for trial
these work really well for hanging a rotator and are relatively simple to knock out
