@Jimoz, as above, death rates include a whole bunch of factors that only serve to confuse this issue.
Looking at infection rates alone gives you a much better idea if the implemented controls are working.

If the UK wants to be a global hub again, you'll need to get your act together.
We will have to disagree there. What good is cases as a measure when the majority will be asymptomatic and the FPR is undisclosed? Deaths are the only thing that matter IMO and not fiddled excess deaths statistics. If we have 70k dead "from" c19 at year end but flu deaths go from 10k plus to less than 1000 and all other causes go down to you know where you stand.

As to the UK being a global hub it's not a compliment but a fact. I'm not saying the UK is better than oz, I have dual citizenship! The fact is though oz and nz are at the arse end of the world. I would bet not many people travel through these countries but travel to them. I'm sure you could compare airport arrivals if you wanted a true picture.

I would presume these UK figures are flights only? Perhaps don't include the thousands of hgv drivers that come and go per day.
UK is globally connected and needs to trade to survive. Aus can seem very isolationist at times

Total deaths don’t deceive.

Add to that the different types and quantities of testing it makes it very vague
It's a bit of a case of u where to do more iq tests you would find more idiots but the world will still function

As for Australia - life was nearly back to normal until a US air crew introduced a new strain a few weeks ago. Sydney is imploding and all other states are closing their borders to prevent the spread.
Boris didn't take it seriously until he got a dose and I think you are right - by the time he did take it seriously, it was way too late.
At the start of the year, I was living 1000km from the chinese border. I knew the sh!t was going to hit the fan by the second week in Jan. If I knew, every significant government would have had advisors watching what was developing.

Hong Kong has recently banned BA (and others) for two weeks as penalty for bringing in infected passengers.
If the UK wants to be a global hub again, you'll need to get your act together.
see on the box just now ... the Dutch have banned all incoming passenger flights from UK .... every country should have banned travel months ago .. end of

I think you may have taken offense when none was intended (my appologies all the same).

What I meant was that if the UK takes a year longer to get clean than (say) FR, Nl, DE, the traffic will have developed new habits that will be hard win back.

Anyone got themselves sorted with a COVID vaccine yet? There’s been a round up here in north east Scotland with front line and elderly all got the first dose.
Yep Grans just had it. Chuffed pink!🤣

But on another note politely put no one gives a FF about AU And NZ they're are simply put at the arse end of the world with Zero global influence...if they want to lock themselves up fine...only them it's going to hurt..feel sorry for their businesses.
Yes I do love the country's ....been twice and was supposed to go again this year...

Again, your missing my point (and yes, AU&NZ are at the arse end of the world) ; the Divide & Conquer technique seems to have worked.
Yes it has been costly, but your lockdowns have been half-arsed, costly and largely ineffective.
It's like using half a condom.

.been twice and was supposed to go again this year...
Let me know when you are in town - I've got plenty of logs need cutting!

Hey woah...my point was that I'm sick of folk comparing Au and NZ to larger countries like UK etc..not a fair comparison...totally different dynamics involved.
Sorry maybe I was a tad harsh, had some good times in NZ😁
Haha where are you? I'll guess we'll be down in 2030🤣

Nope MIL not heard anything yet. Her apartment is 200 yds from the GPs Surgery.
Mind you, she has the 'flu jab a few weeks ago and toddled over there OK
