Just applied for my £10,000 Industrial site grant.... not proud of it but we will need it in the coming months.... what was going to be a fantastic year has basically gone to s**t.... 4 decent jobs for the coming months are on hold due to it will spend half that money paying bills that where due to be paid this month and then sit on the rest!

Nothing to be ashamed of. You might as well take what is offered as you will be paying for what everyone else had for the rest of your life no matter if you take your share or not. I'll be accepting anything offered as we are atleast 50%down this year already and don't expect it to get better any time soon.

Over here in France at the moment we are being told if you work alone and can continue then you should do.
We are based in the sticks so I had a couple of hundred ton of aggregates to do some parking and drainage jobs delivered to yard just in case the quarry shut but it is still delivering at present - we can collect from the suppliers if order by email - arrange a collection time - stay in wagon while you get loaded.
Our snag is there are no inspectors to sign off our installations (treatment plants etc) so that cant continue and its 90% of the workload at present - so dropped onto all the little infill jobs that we had a backlog of...... about a months worth of them at the moment then after that .............. grass cutting for holiday home owners that cant get over here.

Going to be a case of do what you have to to ride it out.

Was informed earlier today that a guy that I used to work with died earlier today from the Covid-19 virus
This puts it in perspective - so stay strong, safe and well buddy.

I appreciate what they are doing, but they are only doing what they volunteered and are being paid for.

Get a grip will you Graham, that has to be one of the most insensitive things I’ve ever read on here, it just seems to me that all your bothered about is that fact that your 50% down on your work....well, a bit of news for you....we all are down on work and are all in difficult times.

Will second that Gra, what they are doing is beyond words...some of the pictures coming out on the media of theirs hands and fingers starting to crack, and the marks left on there faces from wearing face masks all day are just saddening, on top of doing long long shifts and, unfortunately for very little money.

If they remove rate relief we will have to pay them anyway, regardless of whether we claim or not... site is registered industrial for the past 50+ years so theirs no escaping that!

I'm kicking myself this year TBH, we spent 5k over winter getting both the crusher and the 210-5 Komatsu cab operational for two jobs this spring.... Both jobs are now gone! The positive is I have done the 210-5 and the crusher, but It's a reminder of why I keep finance to a minimum! If we had financed gear we would be completely f***ed!

That's what I expect my 80% pay for 3 months to be..... Informed today S/E who are eligible can claim it to supplement there income and also keep working. Same principle of the 10k grant..... I am going to wind up paying for it whether I need it or not, so I might as well take it

Simple fact is as we can already assume.... we are going to be paying for this for a good 50 years now, similar to WW2.

Just FYI on the NHS staff note, my cousin is a junior doctor.... My opinion with doctors Is and still is that they know what they sign up for and they do get good pay down the line. (Nurses and carers are a different story all together.) However the situation is horrific and I do think they deserve exceptional praise ATM, worth every pound!

Well I don't know if it's my place but I'll say it anyway before people start a elevated discussion weather NHS and carers get paid enough. With exception of the majority of the doctors I don't think any of them are in it for the money. My sister is an advanced practitioner nurse at DrGrays hospital in Elgin. She has been posted in the front line dealing with covid patients in what they are calling the covid cage because it's so strictly governed. Do you seriously think how much they are getting paid even enters their mind each day when they go into work when they have a duty of care in life and death situations the entire day.
What we can do is no grump to much about how much we can get from the government for sitting at home on our arses watching our assets idle outside not sure if we can afford to keep them when the real front line have different priority like Will I catch the virus and not be able to care for the people dieing that depend on me.
And on a lighter note what a lovely day it's been here.

Medicine for most and nursing especially, is a vocation ... a calling ... it's not a job, it's a way of life in which most give selflessly .... without them, in normal times life would be pretty ****ing difficult, when you're in need of medical help .... ATM I can't begin to imagine the depth of the s**t we'd all be in ....
