do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
THE PENNY HAS DROPPED!
The very early figures have an extremely high death rate. (because)
This virus is far more prevalent than we all realise. By the time you get the first deaths, it has all ready spread amongst the population without symptoms. The first deaths bring more awareness and then the rate of death starts to drop off as you are testing many more people that don’t then die. The worrying thing is the death rate from this is still well beyond any normal flu season. Hence the reason why we are now seeing the drastic border control measures in Europe.
I wouldn’t want to say China lied, but there is a reason they are now imposing controls on people coming back into China. That don’t want it back. We still no too little about future immunity to this virus and they probably know far more than me!
The Italian numbers are probably the first country to be more accurate with there reporting. But, BIG BUT, they are still behind the curve!
This is only the observations from an old cynic but it is starting to look like there is a lot we don’t know(or haven’t been told)!
As the old saying goes, action speaks louder than word. The actions in Europe should be screaming at us all!!!

very interesting take Shaun ..... and confirmed by the data sets here .....
if you can wade through it

" Coronaviruses are a family of viruses common across the world in animals and humans. Certain types cause illnesses in people.
For example, some coronaviruses cause the common cold; others cause diseases which are much more severe such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), both of which often lead to pneumonia.

COVID-19 is the illness seen in people infected with a new strain of coronavirus not previously seen in humans."

" On 31 December 2019, Chinese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) of an outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan City, which was later classified as a new disease: COVID-19. "
They knew about this disease waaaaay before they had to put their hands up and admit they'd not got a grip on it ..... could have been circulating the world a month or more before ?

"On 30 January 2020, WHO declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern” (PHEIC). "
Were the WHO waaaaaaaaaaaaay too slow off the mark ? possibly because the originators of the report were telling porkies through their bloody teeth and the s**t was sooooooo much deeper than reported

" Based on current evidence, the main symptoms of COVID-19 are a cough, a high temperature and, in severe cases, shortness of breath.
As it is a new virus, the lack of immunity in the population (and the absence as yet of an effective vaccine) means that COVID-19 has the potential to spread extensively. The current data seem to show that we are all susceptible to catching this disease, and thus it is also more likely than not that the UK will be significantly affected.

Among those who become infected, some will exhibit no symptoms 1. Early data suggest that of those who develop an illness, the great majority will have a mild-to-moderate, but self-limiting illness – similar to seasonal flu .

It is, however, also clear that a minority of people who get COVID-19 will develop complications severe enough to require hospital care , most often pneumonia. In a small proportion of these, the illness may be severe enough to lead to death .

So far the data we have suggest that the risk of severe disease and death increases among elderly people and in people with underlying health risk conditions (in the same way as for seasonal flu)

Illness is less common and usually less severe in younger adults . Children can be infected and can have a severe illness , but based on current data overall illness seems rarer in people under 20 years of age."

The italians are showing such heavy mortality figures (IMHDO) for the same reasons the Chinese are .. extended, multi generational families - often 4 generations - and who're the most susceptible .. the oldest generations. Italy has some of the oldest generational populations in Europe ... and lots of 'em
Plus, as said, their reporting is far more accurate

as said elsewhere ..... the greatest threat to us all ATM is the bloody media causing widespread unrest/uncertainty/(I hesitate to use the word) panic - but it's not far off it !!:mad:

the supermarket scenes on the TV news this evening are appalling ... and showing them is going to do nothing to reduce/stop it ... these idiots who're emptying the shelves currently'll have run out of space/cash shortly and things'll return to a more normal situation ... once the supply chain does its job

seems to me we all need to get it and get immunity to it rapid. Dragging it out for months will only allow the NHS to try and reduce the mortality rate by a few % in the at risk groups. Mortality rates below cannot really tell us much as it only counts people who have been tested, these must be very much the minority.

At the pub the weekend, the baby boomers (70+) had no intention of locking themselves away for 4 months they were pretty much like everyone else I know, crack on, get it, hope for the best.

Must admit to a kind of hunker down ,home front feeling at the moment. Don't quite get this panic stuff. Just checked the 0.75L bottle stocks and we're ok...should last a few weeks depending on ml per hour levels.😂
