As I mentioned when this first come out I don’t believe this is a natural problem. My wife works in medical research and the gossip from the professionals in Italy is this is savage. The reported rate of death is at Around 7%. If no new infections are reported they are expecting it to hit 10-15% by the time it finishes off people who currently have it. The word they have is that the death rate is as high in the fit and healthy as it is for those with “under lying medical conditions”!!!!!
In terms of vaccine they are no where even close to resolving this as it is currently not responding to any existing combination of treatment and it is just down to the individuals immune response. The Italian medical profession are scared, very scared!! Where we are heading is currently any bodies guess. But as an old cynic, when the Chinese started building hospitals in 7 days I had started thinking there is certainly more to this than we are being told. Trump was tweeting on Monday that there was no need to panic about this and it was all fake news. I would like to see what landed on his desk to prompt the travel ban!!!!

Don't complain - suggest what's better
My guess is they will try and hold off closing schools until the Easter holidays start to minimise disruption. My daughter breaks up on 27th for three weeks, so that would be a good time to shut stuff down if they think that will work as people will already be expecting their children to be home and so it won't cause so much hassle. Not sure closing schools will actually help as children will still meet up outside of school. I wonder whether it would be better to isolate high risk groups at home and provide deliveries of food, medicine etc.

Incredibly variable death rates. The first two on the list are pretty bad, but the next few are no worse than a lot of other stuff we always have going round - unless I'm reading it wrong. I know nothing about the areas to know if there are differences in population.

Pam talking with a friend Wednesday evening ... nurse in the local hospital .. saying it's manic, but the biggest issue they're having ...
is people/visitors nicking the hand sanitisers quicker than they can put them out :(..... and the bloody giant bog rolls from every toilet in the hospital ....
FFS :censored:o_O .... time to start searching the sods on the way out   and prosecuting anyone caught .

Another interesting one, that has occurred to me this last week ...... we're under the flight / glide paths for several airports, Bristol, Cardiff, Brum, etc..They'm a long way up when they come over us - audible, but not at a nuisance level and forever criss cross each other ... anyway .. not unusual to see half a dozen in the air above us at all time s of the day and evening ... usually .... the last week or so yer's lucky to see one, and pretty infrequently  ... just seen the first 747 in days ... usually several a day, plus all the smaller charter sizes .....
last time the skies were this quiet was when that volcano erupted

We're pretty much the same, normally a flight overhead at all times. But i have noticed it alot quieter also!

That said FlyBe going bust has made the little twin prop noise that went over twice a day disappear :p

guys prevention is better than cure, in my part it is a lost country zero cases, but we are in the war zone with the curfew you can go out only for shopping, in areas like milan rome and other metropolises where there is a transit of tourists and people traveling for work cases are increasing exponentially, therefore quarantine ports airports stations, where there are flows of passengers, it is important to block the count, to overcome this it is necessary to use the mask to hold the infected saliva disinfect the hands, keep a safety distance of at least one meter from person to person, remember prevention, prevention and better than cure, just an infected passenger in an airport or station, in a crowded area that counts everyone in a chain, remember just an outbreak and the pandemic starts, protect yourself, we are a completely closed war zone, especially schools, universities, gyms, you cannot go to the bar and in gathering places, be careful and, the virus takes lungs and severe pneumonia occurs. good luck

do not underestimate the problem, do not get caught by a spark a serious fire

So on a scale of 1-10, how f***ed are we?
listening to an interview with a virologist on R2 this morning ... he gave the most sensible responses I've yet heard ... and didn't flannel ... his summary of the effects were interesting ..
according to him it'd be possible to even have it and not know, have mild cold symptoms, to mild flu symptoms for a few days, right up to full blown serious pneumonia like effects and worse :(......... but ....
99% of people are unlikely to get anything more than mild symptoms before recovering/getting over it, if they even realise they're suffering
however ..... 1% of the UK population is circa 660,000 people :( ... looking at Bara's figure above, the mortality rate in those is circa 0.08% to 0.175%

If you or any of your "loved ones" get the pneumonia version it is going to be varying from bad to really bad, but for everyone else the virus won't be the problem, it will be the over reaction and panic measures that will f**k the economy if we are not careful. I am not a huge Boris fan, but I think he is going about it the right way, taking scientific advice rather than knee jerk reactions of shutting everything to be seen to be acting.
