I'm opposite. Can't stand using offset unless it's needed to bend into an area. For me I use offset alot mainly for the view then anything if doing alot of delicate work in close I like to look out the cab door at it

Well It seems a bit silly having 2x 3 tonners. I love them but can be a pain when I'm wanting digger and several attachments for a days work as they're 2.9ton with just 1 bucket. The 2.4t is the biggest thing I can tow around with say a grab, several buckets, riddle bucket etc baring in mind I only use a Discovery to move my kit. What do you want a 2.4t for if you already have a 2.8t?
It depends what I'm doing. Hard digging I don't like doing offset as your pulling on the slew. But ditching I like to be as close to the ditch with it fully offset for better viewI'm opposite. Can't stand using offset unless it's needed to bend into an area.
All good thanks mate, been working silly hours with another contractor, just finished the job and will put some pictures together soon, trying to take it easy for a whileAll quiet @JerryRtilt ...you keeping out of trouble ?
Are you sure yours isn't faulty? Looking at a few videos they all seem quite controlled when slew comes to a stop...I find it very difficult to control the slew accurately. When digging a trench for example, the bucket touches the side, so there is no problem. Greatest issue for me is lining up, to change buckets. Even if the control is moved extremely slowly, nothing happens, then whoosh, it overshoots. It then overshoots when trying to get back where you wanted it in the first place.
This could be operator error, but I have never been able to find anyone else who has this machine. As stated, I am not a professional machine driver.
If you ever find yourself in Norfolk, you are welcome to have a go.
My machine has been back to the dealer who said it was OK. Just to clarify, the slew is very smooth in operation, but when small movements are required that's when I find the difficulty. I regard small as 1/4" to 1/2". The machine responds to those sort of movements correctly with the other controls. The dealer is always going to say that it is "operator error mate". It may be a limitation of the operator, which I could accept, or it may be the machine's design. Are you sure yours isn't faulty? There will be 1/2" of backlash at theh end of the jib in any slew ring mate!My machine has been back to the dealer who said it was OK. I have yet to speak to another owner or even a user who would offer a reliable independent second opinion.
Put the bucket in the air arm out at full reach and turn it off....wag the bucket manually and is there a lot of rotation in the slew ?My machine has been back to the dealer who said it was OK. There will be a seemingly large amount if you do that on any mini though?Put the bucket in the air arm out at full reach and turn it off....wag the bucket manually and is there a lot of rotation in the slew ?
When i got the u17 i thought it was awful in the slew compared to the 8014 and side by side when tested like that the 8014 with iirc 3500hrs had half the wag of the u17 with 700hrs.There will be a seemingly large amount if you do that on any mini though?
I'm going to look at one next week I think so will let you know what I think. My machine has been back to the dealer who said it was OK.
