Concrete drill bit.

Sorry not really plant! But basically got utilities coming next week to put mainline gas into our house. Trouble is I need to get the 32mm pipe through an 18” stone faced concrete retaining wall I built a few years ago. Can anyone recommend a good drill bit capable of doing that, I have an sds drill - or is it a case of hiring something more capable?

I may be wrong but I think gas may need a 100mm duct around it when passing through concrete so may need something a bit more serious

Basic diamond core drill will manage the concrete but knock a stone out as it won't like the stone (unless its soft stone like sandstone.

I’ve a 55mm Hilti breach bit it’s 600mm long goes in Hilti sds plus and use it for weep holes in retro fit retaining walls. Think the bit was almost £450 though so if you can hire or core it

Do you want to borrow the Road compressor and atlas copco rock drill? Do a 45mm hole no bother through granite..... if you want it bigger put some boomy juice in off @Rob65 and you can have it larger.... Much much larger

Use a small core or dewalt do a sds drill bit at 35mm a 3000c turns either happily but as above I don't know what the regs are for sleeving it @pettsy ?

It'll deffo need sleeved but i don't know what gas board spec will be. They tend to use a fairly tight fitting sleeve so you might only need a 50/60mm hole. Better to find out first from them as you'll have a right carry on if you make it too small and need to open it up a bit.

But they are so kind they will still charge for coming out to inspect it and sign off

I’m not too sure on the supply pipe as I only work from the meter outlet. I would ask exactly what Cadent/Network provider want as they can be fussy if it’s not exactly done to their spec and won’t connect it up!

This old girl'll run these ..... IIRC the nig 'un's 90mm, but might be 100 ... few smaller ones in the locker/box under the cable and have extensions up to 3ft to drive 'em .... patience is the key with them ..... and a good clutch in the drill

You can get 38mm core bits so a 6mm spare allowing for 2mm or 3mm thick walled sleeve to fit as well

TBH we have used it with the white water pipe plumbers use for sinks as a sleeve, works well enough. ring me after 10 tomorrow if you want it.

I've seen those Stu in their monthly offer rags ..... they any good? .... the erbauer stuff i've used/got seems decent enough for the bucks ... battery drill and reciprocating saw are excellent

You’re not the first to say the drill and saw are good. A friend was telling me the other month. Most his gear is Makita but wanted to try the stuff and he was extremely pleasantly surprised, so much so he was planning to buy more.

Cored with 110mm through concrete rings and manholes no problems and used the 38mm to go through retaining wall at an angle to stop water coming in building builder had same set so used his extension as well to get the length at an angle they have lasted for what I need them to do and sure you can buy replacements

Now I think about it. The neighbours had theirs done and think it runs in white sink drain pipe for a sleeve.
