Compaction wheel

Evening all, got a job that will require a basement to be back filled and compacted for paving etc in the future, I've priced for a trench compactor, I forget its proper name, thinking of getting a wheel as the material which is clay will compact quite well I'd assume, a few of you lads have them, how do you find them, any good?

You'll get a lot better compaction with a rammax than a compactor wheel

No mater what you are compacting it with it will settle over the subsequent years - maybe make sure you are covered in this scenario ??

What size of machine do you need it for, we build them and have one here for a 3-5 ton range machine...

Yeah think your right. Unless you were back filling with mot, but still would probably settle and sink over time. If its a basement can you put block and beam on the walls

Yeah I nearly suggested a block and beam - slab over the top .....utilise the space underneath ?
Fill it with lean mix ?? difficult to say without a bit more info.

Hi Folks, it will be on a ECR 145 via the Engcon, the basement will be filled on the outside as its a new build, used a excavator compactor plate in layers on one and a big f/r compactor plate on the other, the material was dry so no issue with it sticking

a trench compactor (rammer jump jack ) will put excavated material down far better than a wacker have done test bits over the years compact ground with a wacker even a big for/rev diesel plate and the jump jack will take it down more.

Problem is the dig is around 3m deep and approx 3m wide, by the time the working room and the batters for the dig are taken into account its a lot to compact with a trench rammer, I do have one of these and agree it does put it down.

Remote control rammax, operate it inside the cab, no one need go in the hole then

Yea I still have one here, no bracket on it yet so can mount what ever one you want.
