Cheap dumper

I’m looking for a cheap 6 tonne dumper. I’ve seen a 2000 Benford and a 2007 Barford for sale locally. Is there anything to look out for with them? Are parts still readily available?

Barford is the better machine but parts are a pity.

I like my benfords. Good parts availability and built heavier than the thwaites at a lower cost.

The other thing I will say If the Barford is a Hydrostatic with the Kubota or Deutz engine it's worth a punt. Parts are a PITA but If you can get a 3t hydrostatic for under 5k it's worth the punt... cracking little dumpers. Does'nt apply to you as your after the six tonner but worth a mention.

It's a shame Barford died IMHO. they where a nice cross between the over armoured pig to work on Benford and the tin toy Thwaites. They also where the only ones with acceptable paint.

You can normally tell when looking at the state of them how well looked after they are. We have a 5 ton Terex/benford ex A-plant and has been a good enough bus for us. Fuel pump on engine and battery about the only thing I can think of we done to it. Sits about alot though. Wear in the pivot / steering and chrome damage on tipping rams 🤷

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
my '97 Thwaites 6T Alldrive has been superb ... sits a lot between 'campaigns' ... always starts, runs and drives as it should ... and'll go anywhere you have the nuts to take it.

im not overally sure i want to sell this

but its 1000% on the button, you know when you start something and it just sounds a strong machine. This is it.

We are expanding our yard in the new year and I'm wondering to keep it for a bit of work. However as anything, it is for sale.

Yes the 6t benford really is unstoppable you normally run out of talent before it stops and you can push a stockpile into a nice ramp with the front of the skip on a straight tip,

The swivel isn't as good as the visibility over the front is pretty poor before you put anything in the skip

When we collected it the guys on site said please dont take this dumper, it may be the oldest one but its the one that will work everytime we want it.

I have had it since June i think.. goes to show how stock is. I wasn't to fussed as it has been used around the yard. No oil on the floor and i started it up the other day to move something and it took no effort at all. Its surprising i have seen dumpers with 1500 hours with more issues. The ony thing i can see wrong is i think one tire is either the wrong size or has much more tread

I was thinking about it but I need one for a job a week on Monday so might’ve been cutting it fine if I didn’t get one there. If I didn’t buy that one they would’ve been stupid money at the auction so no doubt they will go cheap now 😂
