Case mini digger Final drive problem.

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone can help me, I’ve purchased a case mini digger. With a final drive motor problem.

The story goes like this, the final drive on the left hand side was damaged. It was taken into a stream and filled up with silt and was knackered. The previous owner then bought a second hand replacement final drive. But the machine still isn’t right.

The digger will go forward and backwards fine with both leave it pushed forward/backwards. But when you try turn it’s like the two motors are fighting each other. Also feels like the new motor won’t work without the other being used.

Could it be that the new motor has not been plumbed up right ?

Pick the machine up on the blade and bucket so both tracks off the floor. Report what happens when you push/pull one lever at a time.

Just done that, it acts as it should. They move independently when no loads on the tracks could it be that the new motor is the wrong size ?

could be a seal gone? If it either fine with no load on it, but doesn’t work under pressure, could oil be bypassing something when pressure is applied?

I’m no mechanic so excuse me if that’s nonsense

has had the boom been welded as well? looks like its had a hard life

I’ll have to get a copy of the pressure values and test them I suppose

Try removing the motor case drain on the suspect track motor. Now run that track to see how much oil is bypassing this will give you a good indication of the condition of the motor.
