Just been watching a vid of someone traveling through Pakistan - roads cut into mountain sides with a 200m drop off into ragin river below, families stood up on top of trucks and pickups in flip flops just getting where they are going, meanwhile we have just been notified its illegal to go into the woods this weekend due to moderate wind forecast

Oldham Council were due to receive £175,000 for a 250-year lease on a site in Werneth, on which 37 homes were due to be built, from a company called Community Build Werneth.
So, why did the council only actually end up receiving £50k?
Well, it turns out that Oldham Council agreed to write of £125,000 in exchange for the developer paying to make "newly-discovered" historic mine workings safe.

Which sounds ok, until you then learn that after the costs of professional fees and site investigations, Community Build Werneth went bust in 2021.
If only such a thing could have been foreseen, but what sort of pedant would ask to see the financial details of a company they were planning on giving land to in exchange for £175,000 on the expectation that company would then deliver 37 houses?
Clearly, not any pedant at Oldham Council because they proceeded without having been provided with any.
After Community Build Werneth went bust, the land was then sold on for a total of £1.7m, in theory to cover debts.
Some of the debts that don't seem to have been covered include the £125,000 back to Oldham Council, and deposits paid on those proposed houses, of up to £25k each.
Obviously I'm sure Labour Councillor for Werneth, Fida Hussain, knew nothing about any of this, and it was a complete coincidence that he was pictured with the sole director of Community Build Werneth, Sajjadur Malik.
I'm also sure that Zahid Chauhan, another Labour Councillor, also knew nothing about any of this, he was simply the landlord of the property where Sajjadur Malik had registered Community Build Werneth.
There was also no logical reason why after Community Build Werneth went bust, that Mr. Malik should be made a director of Werneth Developments Limited who took on 24 of the 37 housing plots, in order to "facilitate the transfer".
Nothing at all curious about how Saeed Ahmed, another director of Werneth Development, is also a director at Hafiz Construction and Management, who were granted planning consent for 14 new houses at the site, but were able to have a £4,000 payment to develop local infrastructure waived by the planning committee.
Putting all these pure coincidences aside, once again poor management, lack of thorough oversight and the inability to ask basic questions has cost Oldham Council taxpayers more money, and it seems the prospect of it coming back are slim! "
