bulldozer ad7 fiat fiat allis

The Fiat AD7 (later produced under the Fiat-Allis brand following a merger) is a vintage, medium-sized crawler tractor and bulldozer. It features a diesel engine generating around 78 horsepower, and is widely known for its "angledozer" configuration—meaning its front blade can be angled left or right for grading and earthmoving.
Originally introduced in the 1960s, these workhorse machines were utilized for heavy-duty earthmoving, land reclamation, and agricultural tasks. The "AD" designation stands for Apripista a Cingoli (Italian for "crawler bulldozer").

There is no single Fiat-Allis "AD" model universally cited as the best-selling in absolute terms, as the brand has operated globally with several ranges. However, the AD series (such as the AD7, AD9, AD10, AD14) has been iconic for decades.
AD and FA Series: The AD series models (e.g., the AD9, AD10) were very popular for agricultural and construction use. Subsequently, the FA series (such as the FA120, FA150) represented the technological evolution.
Positioning: Fiat-Allis was long the world's second-largest manufacturer of construction equipment after Caterpillar.
Distribution: Although there is no official serial number, models like the AD9 or AD10 are frequently cited by enthusiasts for their longevity and historical presence in Italian fields and construction sites.

Regarding the Fiat-Allis dozer range, there is no single model universally defined as the "most popular," but the AD (Angle-Dozer) series and the subsequent FD (Fiat-Dozer) series have been the standard on Italian and European construction sites for decades.

AD (Angle-Dozer) Series: This was the iconic series produced entirely in Italy until the AD20 model. Models like the AD14 (and its variants, such as the AD14C) were extremely popular for medium and heavy-duty work thanks to their reliability.
FL (Track Loader) Series: If you mean loaders, models like the FL10 and FL14 were among the best-selling and most popular in the 1980s.
Difference between AD and BD: The acronym AD (Angle-Dozer) indicated machines with a swivel blade (more versatile for general use), while BD (Bulldozer) indicated those with a fixed blade for more heavy-duty applications.

Historical Context
Fiat-Allis was formed in 1974 from the merger between the Fiat earthmoving division and the American Allis-Chalmers. This allowed the brand to become a world leader, second only to Caterpillar at times, with iconic machines that marked the reconstruction and development of infrastructure.

The History of FIATALLIS
The Origins: FIAT Earthmoving
It all began in the 1930s, when FIAT, the Italian state-owned automobile company, founded Fiat Trattori to support agricultural expansion in Italy. However, with the increase in construction activities, Italy also needed robust, efficient, and affordable construction equipment.

Thus, Fiat Trattori gave birth to the Fiat Earthmoving division, the first step towards earthmoving equipment. Initially, the technologies were rudimentary: tractors manually converted into bulldozers and mechanical shovels. Among the first pioneering models were the FL6 and FL9 crawler loaders.

The 1950s and the Technological Leap
With technological progress and changing market needs, the 1950s marked the transition to more sophisticated earthmoving machinery. FIAT began producing full-fledged earthmoving equipment, consolidating its position in this sector.

The Birth of Fiat-Allis: An International Outlook
To further grow, FIAT Earthmoving looked beyond Italy's borders and in 1974 merged with the US company Allis-Chalmers, creating the Fiat-Allis brand. This alliance allowed it to enter the global earthmoving equipment market, expanding its range of machines with the introduction of hydraulic excavators, following the example of Poclain.

The 1980s: World Leader
In the 1980s, Fiat-Allis, now FIATALLIS, became the world leader in the industry, second only to Caterpillar. It was the era of iconic machines such as the L10 C and FL14 crawler loaders, which contributed to the brand's global success.

The 1990s: Expansion and Innovation
During the 1990s, FIATALLIS further expanded its reach with the acquisition of companies such as Benati Spa (including the Imola plant) and Hitachi Mechanic Industry. The machines changed color from yellow and brown to orange and blue, and adapted to new market trends with the boom in mini-excavators and skid steers.

The end of the FIATALLIS brand
With the acquisition by CNH (now the owner of Case and New Holland), FIATALLIS was gradually phased out in the early 2000s. After over seventy years of history, the adventure ended, but its legacy lives on in the documents preserved at the FIAT Historical Center in Turin, a must-see for earthmoving machinery enthusiasts.
