" The government has set up a new development company to deliver 40,000 new homes over the next decade on surplus railway land " with tax payer's money - 4000 a year is a long way short of Smarmer's targets - and he's hoping if he thinks they'll be around for a decade to see it 🤬
this'd be the same 'lendlease' that nigh on went tits up recently then

and there was I thinking the 'blue-print/roadmap' for air travel was to shrink it dramatically ????

" increased capacity to serve up to 756,000 flights and 150 million passengers a year " (265,000 flights / year are the figures I've heard for the 3rd runway's capacity)

Nope.... remember for every Uber driver that arrives on a dinghy there's all the lot at home that need to come and "visit"

Gatwick have decided that at least 54% of passengers must arrive at the airport by means other than car. Also banning diesel vehicles airside and a whole host of other green things to counterbalance all the airplanes they are servicing.

Tugs arnt to bad being electric I shouldn't think. Very short run times and benefit from being heavy.
But the fleet of high rise catering lorries are ancient and mostly knackered. I think some are still on the old number plate system. The cost to update them all would be mind boggling. Then the fleets of lorries and tractors for snow clearance. And they have just spent a fortune on 4x4 Mercedes across diesels with an extra 2ft of suspension lift so they can fit a sweeper under neath them.

I like the idea of someone who can implement change. When I was a school governor the catch phrase for any change was “will it improve the education of the children?”. Far too often the answer was No!! The civil service like change just for the sake of change as it makes them think they are doing something!!

" “Achieving our Plan for Change milestone of fast-tracking 150 planning decisions on major infrastructure projects by the end of this parliament is going to require the NSIP regime firing on all cylinders. The proposals in this consultation are crucial to ensuring it is flexible, proportionate, and responsive to government’s priorities.” " :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

" If/when the government fails to hit its 1.5 million new homes target, it will be down to lack of intervention in the capital.

A new report from the Home Builders Federation (HBF) shows that housing delivery in London is in crisis and warns that building targets will be unachievable without intervention.

A lack of support for buyers, excessive bureaucracy, unrealistic affordable housing demands and long delays getting applications approved are all strangling attempts to deliver new homes, the HDF says.

With the capital expected to deliver 440,000 of the government’s 1.5 million new homes target by 2030, housing delivery indicators continue to head in the wrong direction with both housing completions and planning permission approvals falling year-on-year, putting this at significant risk. "

so why should less than 12% of the pop. deliver nigh on 33% of the requirements ????
LONDON again !

https://www.theconstructionindex.co...ers-to-rescue-housing-delivery-in-the-capital

" HBF’s Mind the Gap report highlights that only 30,000 new homes were completed in London in the year to June 2025, as measured by the number of new properties issued with energy performance certificates, down 12% from the previous year and significantly below the 2019/20 peak. Planning permissions have also fallen, down to their lowest level since records began in 2006, with just 966 projects approved in the 12 months to June 2025. .......the number of new home building sites starting has plummeted by 38% "

" Planning permissions for new homes falls to lowest level since 2012

....... sites gaining permission is down 17% year-on-year. ....Planning permission was granted for just 44,520 new homes in England during the second quarter of this year – a 17% drop on the same quarter last year. "

meanwhile .......

" UK cement production falls to 75-year low " ..

hardly surprising if no one's using it

and

" Construction of almost 30,000 new homes is currently stalled due to concerns over wastewater capacity. " too many bloody divi.s, instead of investment

" developers have paid almost £2.3bn to water companies since 2020 to support infrastructure enhancements, yet planning permission is still being refused or delayed over perceived sewerage capacity issues, even where water companies have not raised objections..........The 30,000 stalled homes would generate an estimated £900m in Section 106 contributions, funding schools, roads, green spaces, and public amenities, the HBF says. "

" National Highways has been funding activities ranging from dance classes and sports clubs to LGBT asylum seeker projects ..... National Highways is funding all kinds of things that are completely unrelated to managing and improving the motorway and trunk road network, which is the only job that National Highways has to do – its raison d’être. "
no wonder the roads're in such a bloody mess
